Planning To Import A Foreign Registered Car? Read This Before You Do So...

Despite being one of the largest auto markets in the world, certain manufacturers have yet to enter the Indian market. Additionally, some high-end and sports cars are not introduced in India because there aren't enough customers. Some enthusiasts have discovered various methods to obtain those high-end vehicles in India. Through various routes, some people are importing vehicles with foreign registrations into India. Many vehicles with foreign registered plates are currently on Indian roads.

Now Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has amended new rules for these vehicles. When entering India, a non-transport or personal vehicle registered in another nation must be built and maintained in such a way that the person operating it always has effective control over it.

In case the documents are in a language other than English, then, an authorised English translator, duly authenticated by the issuing authority, shall be carried along with the original documents.

Motor vehicles registered in any country other than India shall not be permitted to transport local passengers and goods within the territory of India. Motor vehicles registered in any country other than India shall comply with the provisions of the motor vehicles Act, 1988 and the rules made thereunder.
