This Renault Kwid Petrol Hybrid From Kerala is a Brilliant Modification - 48km/l Claimed Economy

Kerala is the home town of all the car modifications, most of which are performance-oriented and the best-modded cars from Kerala only. The Renault Kwid we are talking about has been modified to return more kilometres against a litre. This Renault Kwid 800cc is coupled with a hybrid setup and the claimed fuel economy is 48 km/l. Let's dive into it and see what this has on offer!

This Renault Kwid Hybrid has been modified by a group of 5 engineers from Kerala. HyMotiv, the brand of these 5 engineers, specializes in converting regular cars into hybrid cars. This Kwid Hybrid is an e-all-wheel-drive - like newer Hybrid cars from various car makers. The 800cc engine is unchanged and produces the same 54 PS of power and channels to the front wheels. The magic lies to the rear axle which has the electric motors. The power output from the motors is 34hp and it goes to the rear wheels, making it an e-AWD car.
The electric motors contribute 65% of the total power output and it can also run on EV mode. With the EV mode, the car can cover up to 150 km, however, the figures are not tested and the range is not certified either. We don't have the capacity of the battery but the battery is sourced from China and the motors and controllers are imported from the USA. The battery takes 5 hours to get fully charged through the normal wall box charger. As the rear wheels and the engine are not connected to each other, the wheel speeds vary. To solve that, it has got synchronizers which match the speed of the wheels and improve the handling and control.
Great power comes with great responsibility. Here as the power is increased, it needs to brake faster. Hence, it gets disc brakes at all the four wheels which improve the braking power and decreases the braking distance. This Renault Kwid Hybrid can also run on hybrid mode, using both the electric and combustion power. With the Hybrid more, the car can deliver up to 48 km/l, but the claimed figure is not certified. Moreover, the car starts in the ICE mode and you can select the EV mode or Hybrid mode through the rotary dial mounted on the dashboard.

The team has also worked on a pollution control unit which decreases the emissions from the car by 60% and increases the fuel economy by 20%. The team also states that they have filed a patent for the same and they are also working fatigue detector which will instruct the driver to take rest when detected. Moreover, the team is working on the auto park feature which will park the car itself after detecting the space. The battery is sourced from China but the team states that they will soon replace it with an Indian-made unit.
