Royal Enfield Classic 650 - Design

Royal Enfield Classic 650

The design of the Classic 650 is inspired by the Classic 350. While it is based on the Interceptor 650 platform, the design is largely similar to its smaller sibling. The front end of it gets the same headlight as seen on the 350 with an LED bulb. Also, it has a long front mudguard with spoke wheels. The split seat setup will be unique on it as the rear seat uses an upright elevated cradle. The rear end, again, will be the same as the 350 Classic. However, the dimensions of the 650 Classic will be larger due to obvious reasons.

Features

Royal Enfield Classic 650

On the features front, the Classic 650 will be moderately equipped. As the headlight cowl of it'll be the same as the 350, it'll get a semi-digital instrument console. Additionally, the headlight & taillight will be LED units but the turn indicators will use a halogen setup. Moreover, it'll get a slipper clutch but there won't be any riding modes. We suspect that RE might offer the tripper navigation as an option on it but how will it be incorporated is a question.

Engine & Sepcifications

Royal Enfield Classic 650

As it is another 650cc bike, the chassis and engine will see cycle parts from other 650cc RE bikes. The engine will be the same unit as seen on the Super Meteor 650. This 648cc parallel-twin oil-cooled engine makes a peak power of 47 bhp & 52.3 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. However, RE will re-tune this engine and the gear ratios to accommodate the dimensional & weight changes of the new bike.

Hardware

On the hardware front, it'll get a telescopic suspension at the front. Also, the rear suspension will be a dual-shocker unit. It'll also get spoke wheels as seen on the Classic 350 but with different tyre sizes. RE will equip it with disc brakes at both ends and hence a dual-channel ABS will also be offered as standard.

Price & Launch Timeline

As the road testing phase of Classic 650 is undergoing, we suspect that it'll debut globally by the end of this year. However, it won't be anytime before the first quarter of 2024 that it'll hit Indian roads. The expected pricing of it'll be upwards of Rs 3 lakh.

Verdict - The Classic 650 will be a retro-neo roadster motorcycle. It'll attract buyers who love the looks & design of the Classic 350 but want more performance out of it. In India, it has no direct competitor currently.
