Skoda Kylaq Sportline Confirmed, Launches Next Week - 91Wheels Exclusive
Skoda Kylaq, Skoda Auto India's highest-selling car, is getting a new Sportline variant, and it's set to launch next week. This was confirmed by Brand Director Ashish Gupta in a conversation with 91Wheels. He also revealed that Skoda is considering bringing the 1.5L TSI engine to the Kylaq as part of its future updates, though nothing has been finalised on that front yet. 91Wheels recently sat down with Gupta to discuss the brand's future plans, including what updates and editions are coming to the current portfolio. More details below.
Skoda Kylaq 1.5L TSI?
Skoda Kylaq, arguably the most fun to drive car in the sub-4 metre segment, is soon going to dial it up a notch in terms of performance, as the brand is considering bringing the popular 1.5L TSI EVO engine to it. This engine is currently offered with the Slavia and Kushaq, as well as their Volkswagen counterparts, whereas the Kylaq only comes with the 1.0L TSI, which puts out 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque.
Considering the high demand and the sub-compact SUV's growing popularity within the enthusiast community that loves its performance, Skoda is looking at bringing the bigger engine to the Kylaq, which makes 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DSG.
Now, if this happens, the company would have to stiffen up the suspension, bring disc brakes to the rear wheels, and make changes to the engine tuning, since the Kylaq is a small car that already offers good performance. If Skoda does go ahead with this, there's a good chance it could be badged as a Kylaq RS rather than a regular variant with the bigger engine.
Skoda Kylaq Sportline

Now, the one thing that's absolutely certain is the launch of the Skoda Kylaq Sportline variant next week. This was confirmed by Ashish Gupta when 91Wheels asked him whether a Monte Carlo or special edition of the Kylaq was coming soon.
In the Sportline, expect all-black alloy wheels, a black roof and spoiler, plus badging finished entirely in black, all aimed at making the car stand out from the rest of the lineup. Once launched, this variant has a high probability of success, as buyers have been asking for a special edition of the Kylaq since its launch, be it a Monte Carlo or an RS.
The Sportline will most likely sit just behind the Prestige Plus and pack features like a 10.01 inch infotainment system with wireless connectivity, a 10.25 inch driver's display, a sunroof and a wireless charger. It will also get a cooled glovebox, six speakers and 16 inch alloy wheels.
Our Verdict
Overall, the Kylaq Sportline is a smart move by Skoda, giving buyers the visual differentiation they've wanted without touching what already works under the hood. But if the brand does go ahead and bring the 1.5L TSI EVO engine to the Kylaq, it would be a big deal. People are already head over heels for this car, and a genuine performance bump could turn the Kylaq from a segment favourite into something closer to a segment benchmark. If it does happen, expect the launch price to sit somewhere around Rs 16 to 17 lakh.
