The brand introduced the updated BS6 model recently that takes on the rivals like the new Xtreme 160 from Hero. Having said that, here are a few TVS Apache RTR 160 pros and cons that you should definitely know if you are in the market to buy a new 160 cc bike.
Pros:
1. Build Quality
The TVS Apache RTR 160 boasts commendable built quality and ages really well over time. The plastics used are of good quality and so are other critical mechanical components. In all, the overall built quality of the TVS Apache 160 is better than most of its rivals.
2. Performance
In addition to a powerful engine, the Apache RTR 160 also gets a performance-tuned chassis which helps in the overall performance. The bike is extremely responsive to the throttle inputs and will definitely satisfy most of the hardcore riders.
3. Fuel Economy
The users report an average mileage of around 42-45 kmpl in normal urban commute which in my opinion is more than sufficient for a bike of this class. In addition to this, the overall fuel consumption is not very high when the vehicle is driven aggressively.
4. After-Sales Support and Maintenance Costs
TVS has a great dealership and service centre network in the country and enjoys superior after-sales support. The parts are not very expensive to replace and their availability too is not a major concern anywhere in the country. The scheduled service is not expensive thus making it an affordable bike in the longer run.
5. Practical Urban Performance Commuter
The RTR 160 has a compact footprint, scores high in terms of overall agility, and also offers a decent fuel economy. All this, clubbed together, makes it a practical and a good choice for those who are looking for a performance-packed bike for the urban commute.
Cons:
1. Aggressive Riding Position
The seat of the bike makes the rider sit in a forward-biased riding position which may not be very comfortable for everyday usage. Such a riding position causes a significant strain on the shoulders and on the back of the rider during long hours commute.
2. Brakes
While the overall performance is great, the brakes on the other hand feel very spongy and lack the feel and feedback levels that a rider would expect. the braking performance is decent but the feel-feedback offered from the brakes should have been better.
3. Engine Refinement
The fuel-injected engine powering the RTR 160 is extremely powerful and responsive, giving the bike some incredible performance. However, this motor lacks the refinement and smoothness levels and does tend to vibrate a lot when pushed hard.

4. Dated Design
Its been long since the brand first introduced the Apache 160 series in the Indian market and not many updates have been made to the bike since then. The overall design of the bike has now started to show its age and we would appreciate if the brand launched the new model with a refreshed design language.
5. Too sharp Dynamics
The dynamics of the RTR 160 are extremely sharp, making it more suited to high-speed riding. In everyday city commute, slightly softer suspension setup and riding dynamics will make it a better and a more practical choice for those who will be primarily using this bike for the everyday commute.
