TVS iQube EV bookings open; First electric scooter from the brand

The future of automobiles is likely to be electric vehicles and the manufacturers have already started working on it. TVS, one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the world has unveiled its first electric scooter today. Named as the iQube, the manufacturer has started accepting bookings for the EV at a payment of Rs 5,000. The TVS iQube will be first available in Bengaluru city. It gets an on-road price of Rs 1.15 lakhs, on-road.

The all-new scooter gets powered by a new 4.4 kW electric motor that can take the scooter to a top speed of 75 km/h. After a full charge, the scooter can run for 78 km. Since it is an electric scooter, it offers good acceleration. TVS claims that it can do 0-40 km/h in just 4.2 seconds. The manufacturer has not revealed the timing of 0-60 km/h run though.

The all-new iQube is also the first connected scooter from the brand. It is equipped with TVS SmartXonnect platform that offers advanced TFT instrument cluster that can be connected to a dedicated smartphone app. The connected feature offers a range of features including remote battery charge status, navigation assist, parking location, incoming call alert, SMS alert and Geo-Fencing. There are a host of other features that are available through the new technology.

TVS plans to manufacture and sell about 100 units every month initially. The scooter will be available through a network of 10 authorized dealerships, which will be increased at a later stage.

The overall design of the TVS iQube is quite distinctive. It offers LED Daytime running lamps, LED light strip, LED headlamp and LED tail lamp. It also gets an illuminated logo that makes it look like a futuristic scooter. The scooter also gets a mobile phone charging socket and a lot of space under the seat. There is a also Q-Park assist that will allow the rider to park the scooter easily in tight spots.

The scooter will take on the likes of Bajaj Chetak EV and Ather 450 in the Indian market.
