TVS Norton New Entry-Level Bike To Challenge RE Guerrilla 450, Speed 400

TVS, through its Norton Motorcycles brand, aims to enter the premium modern retro motorcycle segment, with plans to launch two to three models in the 300cc to 500cc range. The first of these, a 300cc-400cc modern retro motorcycle, co-developed by TVS and Norton, is expected by 2028. These entry-level Norton bikes will utilize a new frame but will feature engines derived from TVS's new 300cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder platform, which is designed for scalability up to 500cc. The latest scoop, as per an online source, puts the TVS in a fierce category currently dominated by Royal Enfield and Triumph.

tvs ronin

TVS tried its hand with the Ronin series, and while it is nimble and looks the part, it could not garner the numbers it hoped it would. This was further fueled by the rivals in the category, like the Triumph Speed 400, the Hunter 350, and others. Norton Motorcycles, under TVS's ownership, has previously announced plans to introduce six new models in select markets, including India, by 2027, with the first model debut in 2025. This initial offering is expected to be launched in India shortly following its global unveiling. Furthermore, the Norton Combat trademark, registered in India prevously, strongly suggests this nameplate could be used for the brand's inaugural 350cc-400cc motorcycle in the Indian market.

TVS-Norton Bike: Launch Plans And Timeline

The first bike being co-developed by TVS and Norton will hit showrooms by 2028 and will be making its India debut then, while also being exported to international markets. As for the others in the line-up, the bikes will be manufactured in India and then exported to select international markets as per their plans.

Verdict

TVS needs to rework its startegy if it wants to capture the 350-400cc space where the leaders already have a deep penetration along with a wide portfolio. Also, the Norton brandname is still releatively new to the Indian masses, so the uphill task would be to familiairse the masses with this new moniker, maybe through some market-fit models introduced before the newly developed bike enters the scene.
