The 2020 Auto Expo was LIT this year with several carmakers showing their future products for the Indian market. India's largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki also showcased the Futuro-E and popular highlight was the 3-Door Jimny. Recently, rendered images of the 5-door version of Suzuki Jimny is doing the rounds of the internet and we wonder if Maruti will bring it to India?

Sharing more details on this 5-door version of the India specific Maruti Suzuki Jimny then its length will no longer be more than 4,000 metres. Also, the Euro-spec version will come to the Indian market and will be assembled locally.
It is not yet clear as Maruti will launch the Jimny under the 'Gypsy monicker' or it'll continue with the international version. Other updates coming in from sources is that the 5-door version might lose out on the 4WD set-up as to reduce the costs and increase the fuel efficiency. The 3-door version could well be put up against Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha as it'll retain its roots of 4x4 set-up.

In our opinion, a 5-door version of the Suzuki Jimny with 4WD set-up makes more of a real deal for Maruti. If launched then not only it will offer extra space for the passengers in the second row but also gives more road presence than the 3-door one.

Under the hood, Maruti is expected to stick the 1.5L petrol engine which is used in Vitara Brezza, Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6. This unit makes 103 bhp along with a peak torque of 138 Nm. It comes with a 5-speed manual transmission and a four-speed automatic gearbox. We expect that the automatic gearbox will be reserved for the 4WD set-up only. The upcoming SUV is expected to be sold via NEXA dealerships only.
