Recently, Yamaha disclosed its intentions of not renewing the R1 and R1M as per the latest Euro-5 emission norms. While this news came as a shocker to brand lovers, Yamaha has now revealed that both bikes shall be sold as track-legal bikes only. Now this is a relief news for the potential buyers planning to opt for these models. Also, track-only means that there will be multiple options to tune the bikes and utilize their complete potential in a safe environment.

For now, this announcement has been made only for the European markets where the R1 and R1M sell well. Yamaha India has not disclosed any information regarding this discontinuation but we expect that in the coming months, it'll be officially announced. Mind you, the iconic YZF-R1 moniker is now 22 years old globally and it has undergone 10 different iterations.
