Tesla Simplifies Model Y Range In India

Alongside the launch of the Tesla Model Y Premium RWD version, Tesla has streamlined the Model Y range in India. The previously available Long Range Premium RWD variant, which carried a price tag of Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom), has been discontinued. As a result, the Model Y portfolio now consists of two variants:
| Variant | Price (Ex-showroom) |
| Model Y Premium RWD | Rs 50.89 lakh |
| Model Y L Premium AWD | Rs 61.99 lakh |
The move creates a clearer distinction between the standard five-seat Model Y and the larger six-seat long-wheelbase Model Y L. The Tesla Model Y Premium RWD is claimed to deliver a WLTP-certified driving range of up to 500 km on a full charge, making it suitable for both urban commutes and longer intercity journeys. Tesla claims the electric SUV can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 201 kmph.
| Specification | Model Y Premium RWD |
| Range (WLTP) | 500 km |
| 0-100 kmph | 5.9 seconds |
| Top Speed | 201 kmph |
| Drive Layout | Rear-Wheel Drive |
While Tesla has not officially revealed battery capacity details for the India-spec version, international versions of the rear-wheel-drive Model Y use a battery pack of approximately 64 kWh paired with a rear-mounted electric motor. Charging capabilities remain impressive. Using Tesla's Supercharger network, the SUV supports DC fast charging speeds of up to 175 kW. Under ideal conditions, Tesla claims up to 238 km of driving range can be added in just 15 minutes of charging.
Interior Gets New Themes & Bigger Screens

Inside, the Model Y Premium RWD continues Tesla's minimalist design philosophy but introduces updated interior finishes and technology.Customers can choose between two cabin themes- All-Black or Zen Grey. A major highlight is the upgraded 16-inch central touchscreen, which now features improved responsiveness and enhanced software integration for vehicle controls, navigation, entertainment, and connectivity functions. Rear passengers also benefit from an 8-inch display, allowing access to entertainment and select vehicle functions. Other cabin highlights include power-folding rear seats, five-seat configuration, a large panoramic glass roof, connected vehicle ecosystem, OTA software updates, & more.

Flexible Ownership Options
To make ownership more accessible, Tesla is offering financing plans with EMIs starting from Rs 39,990 per month, subject to loan approval and applicable terms. The quoted plan is based on down payment of Rs 6 lakh with a loan tenure of seven years. Tesla also claims that customers transitioning from similarly priced petrol or diesel SUVs could potentially save up to Rs 20,000 per month through lower running and maintenance costs.
Verdict
The launch of the Model Y Premium RWD marks an important step in Tesla's India strategy. By introducing a more attainable variant while retaining Tesla's core strengths of range, technology, and performance, the company has created a stronger entry point into its lineup. While it is still positioned firmly in the premium EV space, the new variant offers a significantly lower price than the discontinued Long Range model and should appeal to buyers looking for a practical, tech-heavy electric SUV with the backing of one of the world's most recognised EV brands.
