Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 Detailed Review

Looks and Colour Options 10

The cafe racer-style motorbike Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 has a lot of personality. The Continental GT 650 has a classic appeal like virtually all other Royal Enfield bikes, but it also features a lot of high-end contemporary components. This motorbike has a rectangular turn signal and a round headlight up front with chrome surrounds. Although the motorcycle's headlight is not LED, it has an outstanding beam spread. You won't be dissatisfied with the motorcycle's lighting performance even on the roads because it provides adequate illuminating power. The handlebars of the motorbike are facing the rider because it is a cafe racer, and because it is a throwback motorcycle, it has rear-view mirrors with chrome accents, which look great.

Moving to the side profile, one can see that the Continental GT 650 has a very neat profile as it gets minimal graphics on the body panels. Again, as it is a cafe racer, the Continental GT 650 gets a single-piece seat with a seat cowl. The unique seat of the motorcycle adds to its visual appeal. The motorcycle gets an abundance of chrome on the body parts like the engine casing, mudguards and chrome-finished dual exhausts of the motorcycle look really cool. At the rear, it gets a rectangle-shaped halogen tail lamp. The new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 BS6 is currently offered in five different colour variants. They are British Racing Green, DUX Deluxe, Mr Clean, Rocker Red, Ventura Storm.

Summary

The new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a stunning looking motorcycle. This cafe racer has its own unique appeal and it is available in several colour variants.

Dimensions and Capacity 9

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 has dimensions of 2122 mm in length, 744 mm in width, and 1024 mm in height. It is supported by a tubular steel frame with bolted trussing. With a wheelbase of 1398 mm and a seat height of 793 mm, this vintage cafe racer is suitable for both short and tall riders. The enormous 174 mm ground clearance of the new BS6 Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is more than enough to handle speed bumps. The motorbike features a huge 13.7-litre petrol tank and weighs 202 kg (without fuel).

Summary

The new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 BS6 has healthy proportions and this bike offers a good ground clearance. Also, it has a low seat height but the motorcycle is quite heavy.

Engine Performance and Mileage 10

The new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is powered by a BS6 compliant 648cc, parallel-twin, air-cooled engine and it gets an electronic fuel-injection technology too. This BS6 motor churns out 47 bhp of maximum power and 52 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and this motorcycle even gets a slipper clutch. The Continental GT 650 and the Interceptor 650 are probably among those very few motorcycles that haven’t lost power and torque while switching to meet BS6 emission norms.

The motorbike is now more environmentally friendly thanks to the BS6 upgrade, and the engine seems even more polished than before. The Continental GT 650 has excellent performance, and because it's a cafe racer, it rides and handles better than the Interceptor 650. It boasts excellent mid-range performance and a strong low-end punch. The motorbike excels on highways, and one can reach speeds of over 100 mph with ease. The counterbalanced engine allows the bike to easily maintain triple-digit speeds with less vibration. This bike's engine doesn't overheat or appear to be under stress. Real-world riding on this motorbike results in mileage of between 25 and 35 km/l in a variety of situations.

Summary

The new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 offers great performance and it excites you every time you get on the saddle and twist the throttle of the bike. The Continental GT 650 offers good fuel economy too and it delivers 25-35 kmpl in real-world riding conditions.

Tyres, Brakes and Features 9

This retro motorcycle rides on 18-inch tubeless radial tyres. However, since it gets spoke wheels and not alloys, these tyres perform as tube-type units. The front tyre of the motorcycle measures 100/90-R18 while the rear one is a 130/70 section R18 unit. For braking duties, the new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 gets disc brakes at either end. The front suspension consists of 41mm telescopic forks, while the rear suspension consists of dual gas-charged shock absorbers with preload adjustment. The bike is supported by a single 240mm disc brake at the back and a single 320mm disc brake up front, both connected to ByBre four-piston callipers with Dual-channel ABD.

The Continental GT 650 offers a good ride quality and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable at all. On the features front, a single seat with a race cowl, clip-on handlebars, and spoked wheels are included with the Continental GT 650. A speedometer and tachometer are seen on the Continental GT 650's twin-pod analogue instrument panel. Additionally, it has a tiny multi-information display (MID) in the middle that includes trip metres, an odometer, a fuel gauge, a clock, etc. Instead of using LEDs, the Continental GT makes do with traditional bulbs for its headlamp, taillight, and indicators.

Summary

The new Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is a great motorcycle that has decent hardware but performs brilliantly well in real-world riding conditions. The motorcycle offers good braking performance, it handles pretty well and gets all the usable features too.

With rear-set footpegs and clip-on handlebars, it offers a lively riding stance. For riders who prefer a more upright position or for extended journeys, its aggressive riding stance might not be the best option.
