Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 Update In 2026; GT 750 To Debut Earlier

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 update slated for Q4 2026; will continue alongside new GT 750
  • Suspension upgrades expected, with possible twin front disc brake setup under consideration
  • Continental GT 750 likely to launch in Q3 2026, marking the brand's new 750cc chapter

Royal Enfield is preparing for a significant expansion of its twin-cylinder lineup, but the arrival of a new 750cc platform will not signal the end of the existing 650 range. While the upcoming Royal Enfield Continental GT 750 is expected to debut in the third quarter of the calendar year, the current Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 will continue in production and receive a meaningful update in 2026. Continental GT 650 To Co-Exist With GT 750

The RE Continental GT 650 has emerged as Royal Enfield's most popular twin-cylinder offering, attracting a younger audience to the brand with its cafe racer styling and accessible performance. Recent spy images suggest that the forthcoming GT 750 will sit higher up the ladder, featuring more premium components and potentially targeting a different buyer demographic. Instead of replacing the 650, Royal Enfield appears set to position the 750 as a step-up alternative. This strategy allows the brand to retain the 650's strong value proposition while expanding into a more premium space with the larger-capacity model.

The 2026 update for the Continental GT 650 is expected to go beyond cosmetic tweaks. While the motorcycle will likely retain its telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorber layout, revised suspension components are anticipated to address feedback regarding ride quality. There is also speculation about upgraded braking hardware, with the possibility of a twin front disc setup similar to what has been seen on test mules of the GT 750. However, this remains unconfirmed. A modest price increase is likely once the refreshed model goes on sale, which is expected in the fourth quarter of CY2026.

Currently, the Continental GT 650 is offered in five colour options, with buyers able to choose between spoked wheels or alloys depending on the variant.

The Bigger Picture: 750cc Expansion

Royal Enfield has already showcased the GT 750 and the Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 at EICMA 2025, signalling the start of a new 750cc chapter for the brand. The Continental GT 750 is expected to launch around the festive season this year, while the Himalayan 750 could follow at EICMA 2026.

Verdict

The decision to update the Continental GT 650 rather than phase it out reflects Royal Enfield's recognition of the model's strong market position. With improved suspension and potential hardware upgrades on the horizon, the refreshed GT 650 could address existing shortcomings while maintaining its appeal as an attainable twin-cylinder cafe racer. Meanwhile, the upcoming GT 750 will likely cater to enthusiasts seeking greater performance and premium hardware, creating a clear two-tier strategy within Royal Enfield's growing twin-cylinder portfolio.
