The condition of the accelerator pedal sticking while driving is a situation as fearful as the failure of brakes, if not less. Though it is a rare condition, however, if such a situation occurs, bringing your car to a complete halt should be your final motive, instead of panicking out. When the accelerator of your car gets stuck, instead of panicking out, try to bring down the speed of the car and stop it completely. It should be done by disconnecting your feet from the accelerator pedal completely, and a playful method of implementing the clutch and brake pedals thereafter. So, today we have listed for you the top six steps that you need to follow if the accelerator pedal of your car gets stuck while driving.
Following is a step-by-step procedure to follow just in case the accelerator of your car gets stuck while driving:
Turn On the Hazard Lights - Indicating the other passer-by people is something which you should do at first. By turning on the hazard lights, you can alert other people driving near you that you are in trouble, and will keep a distance from your car.
Remove Your Feet from the Accelerator Pedal Completely - The first and the foremost reaction of yours should be to not put any further force on the accelerator, which might thereby increase the speed of the car even more. Take off your feet from the accelerator pedal and place it on the brake pedal.
Push the Brake Firmly - Press the brake pedal firmly, while engaging the clutch with your left foot. Do not try to pump the brake pedal by pressing it even with slightest of the intervals, as the vacuum created by pumping the brake pedal will only stiffen up the brakes of your car.
Shift to Neutral - While you have engaged the clutch pedal and brake pedal together, upon slowing the car, bring the gear lever to neutral, irrespective of whether the car is manual or automatic gearbox equipped.
Divert your Car Sideways - If you are driving in a lane on a highway, try to steer towards the side of the road and possibly look for an inclined surface to increase your braking effects even more.
Turn Off the Engine - After the vehicle loses its speed and the gearbox is in the neutral position, turn off the engine. If your car is equipped with a start-stop button, instead of pressing it repeatedly, try to long-press the starter button for almost four to five seconds.
