Sonet Highlights
On Target
Compact yet premium, Sonet blends style, features, and performance for urban SUV buyers.
Pros
Sonet offers a feature-rich cabin. Plenty of engine options to choose from: petrol, turbo petrol and diesel units. Offers impressive mileage on highways. Interior feels premium among the rivals.
Cons
The suspension setup feels a bit stiff. It doesn't offer any factory-fitted CNG option. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol feels a bit laggy initially. Second row might feel little cramped with three adults.

Should I buy the Sonet?
If you're looking for a family SUV under Rs 16 lakh, packed with features, consider the KIA Sonet. The updated Sonet features new design elements and added features. It also has enhanced safety measures, and notably, ADAS for increased safety. The Sonet offers comfort tailored to the buyer's preferences. It has multiple engine options, paired with a variety of gearbox choices. However, if your priority leans towards mileage or a CNG powertrain, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a suitable alternative.

Latest Updates on Sonet
Kia is set to introduce the MY25 Kia Sonet with a variant and feature rejig to streamline the lineup. New trims like HTE(O) and HTK(O) will be added, offering extra convenience features such as rear power windows, LED DRLs, and power-folding ORVMs. At the same time, Kia will discontinue HTK+, HTX+, and GTX variants and drop the diesel-AMT combo on the HTX trim. Engine options remain unchanged, with petrol and diesel choices continuing as before.
The Kia Sonet EV has been spotted testing in India for the first time, signalling Kia’s entry into the mass-market electric SUV space. Expected to launch by mid-2025, it will rival the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. While details are limited, the Sonet EV is likely to offer a claimed range of around 450 km, possible multiple battery options, EV-specific styling tweaks, and a refreshed interior to differentiate it from the ICE version.
Kia India has revised prices across the Sonet lineup, with hikes ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 27,000, while introducing new variants like HTE(O) and GTX. The Sonet continues to be priced between Rs 7.99 lakh and Rs 15.77 lakh (ex-showroom), with select variants and dual-tone options remaining unaffected. Petrol and diesel engine options stay unchanged, keeping the Sonet competitive against rivals like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, and Hyundai Venue.
Kia India has introduced a new Sonet GTX variant, positioned between the HTX+ and GTX+, priced at Rs 13.71 lakh (ex-showroom). It becomes the entry point to the GT Line range and is offered only in single-tone colours. The GTX packs premium features like dual 10.25-inch screens, ventilated seats, a 360-degree camera, sunroof, and powered driver seat, but skips ADAS and the Bose audio system. Engine options include a 1.0L turbo-petrol with 7-speed DCT and a 1.5L diesel with 6-speed AT.
The Kia Sonet has crossed the 4 lakh unit sales milestone globally, with over 3.17 lakh units sold in India alone. Petrol variants dominate demand with a 63% share, while diesel accounts for 37%. Buyer preference is clearly shifting towards convenience and features, as sunroof-equipped variants make up 63% of sales, and automatic transmissions contribute 28%, with iMT adding another 23%. To capitalise on this trend, Kia has introduced more affordable sunroof variants, strengthening the Sonet’s appeal in the compact SUV segment.
