The next-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar is expected to be launched at the Auto Expo and the SUV has been spied with new interiors. The production-ready model gives us a clear idea of how the interiors might look like.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar interiors are a major upgrade from the current generation. And we see the addition of power windows, factory fitted hardtop, a touchscreen infotainment system and among others. The latter is expected to carry connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
What's new in the interiors, as seen in the video above, is the updated speedometer. The instrument console is inspired by the luxurious MPV, Marazzo. The two analog dials and a digital display in the middle gives a refreshed look.

The MID screen here gives details like the availability of cruise control, ABS, Airbags and among others. It will also give you an idea of which 4x4 engagement you're in that is either high or low. Also, if you look closely at the pointed arrow then you will notice a steering wheel placement below the temperature. Is that a 'smart steer' function which the XUV300 gets? Or it tells the position of the steering wheel when you are on an off-road patch and trying to get out of a tricky spot? We will only know once the SUV is launched.
The next-gen Thar also receives an automatic climate control which is a major upgrade from the current-gen. Also, the rotary knobs now get a new design and the seats are expected to get leather treatment. The gear knob is new along with the addition of 4x4 transfer. The SUV now gets a foldable keyfob which is another premium addition.
Talking about the exteriors then the hardcore SUV has grown in dimensions. The 2020 Mahindra Thar now gets updated alloy wheels along with all-four disc brakes which adds to safety.
Under the hood, the Mahindra Thar will ditch the current 2.5 CRDe for a refined 2.0L engine under the hood. The latter will be seen on the Mahindra Scorpio too in BS6 form. It will come with a 6-speed manual transmission on all trims and the addition of automatic is considered to be launched later this year.

The safety features on the next-gen Mahindra Thar include dual airbags along with off-road Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). A high-speed alert system, rear parking sensors, front seat belt reminders are also an addition to the list.
Mahindra Thar was launched back in 2010 and till now it is considered the most affordable hardcore 4x4 in the country after the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. The latter got discontinued in 2019 due to lack of safety norms. The price of current-gen Thar starts at Rs 9.64 lakh and the top-spec Signature 700 edition fetches up to Rs 10.1 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With the updated version, the prices are expected to see an increase.
