Maruti Suzuki is ready to launch the new generation of its popular entry-level hatchback, Celerio. Due to the pandemic, the automotive giant faced a delay in the launch. It is being said that few Maruti dealers have even commenced accepting unofficial bookings at Rs 5000 - Rs 11000, but the official launch is still a while away. The 2022 Maruti Celerio will compete against the likes of Hyundai Santro and Tata Tiago.
The base variant of the upcoming model has been spotted which was in Arctic White colour available with the existing model as well. There is a possibility that the new Celerio might get new colour schemes as well.
The latest model will come with completely new looks and feel wherein the comfort and conveniences along with features have also been taken care of. The car now packs an updated front grille design, fog lamps, a front bumper and also headlamps. The grille up front gets a chrome strip that runs seamlessly connecting with the headlamps.
The upcoming generation will be larger than the existing model and is built on the Heartect platform used in Swift, S-Presso, and WagonR. With the change in dimensions, the new Celerio will have a larger window area. The car will come equipped with body-coloured ORVMs with integrated turn signals and new sporty alloy wheels.
Glancing at the rear profile of the car, it gets an update in its tail lamps and other body panels with curvy edges for a more refined look and feels. The car from inside is also tweaked a bit. It is expected that the new generation might offer a new Bluetooth entertainment system in its entry-level trim whereas in the top-spec variants of the new Celerio there is a possibility to get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. An update in the centre console and the dashboard design has also been tweaked. The car is expected to offer some new creature comforts with updated seat upholstery.
New Celerio will be powered by the same 998 cc engine as in the existing model capable of delivering 67 bhp of max power @ 6000 rpm and 90 Nm of peak torque @ 3500 rpm mated to a 5-speed manual and auto gear shift (AGS).
Along with the 1.0-litre K-series engine, there are chances that the automotive giants also offer a 1.2-litre engine and a company-fitted CNG kit as well. The CNG variants will compromise a little with its power and torque figures which will be reduced to 58 bhp from 67 bhp and 78 Nm from 90 Nm of peak torque mated a 5-speed manual transmission.
The 1.2-litre engine is available with WagonR and is capable of churning out 82 bhp of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque mated to either 5-speed manual or AGS transmission. The upcoming Celerio will be a fuel-efficient car. The CNG variant is claimed to quote a mileage of 30.47 km/kg whereas the petrol motor would give 21.63 kmpl which is also not bad.
