Kia India has started road-testing another interesting SUV. The upcoming Kia Clavis SUV has been spotted on a test run in Delhi/NCR. The Clavis can possibly debut later this year. Kia Clavis SUV: Bigger Than Sonet?
The Clavis SUV is an upcoming model that has been spied testing globally earlier. The first-ever spy shots from India indicate that Kia is serious about bringing it to the domestic market. While the Kia Sonet is already on sale, the ever-growing SUV market of India demands more and more. Hence, the Clavis will be an ideal deal as the company will position it above the Sonet and below Seltos.
Visible in the photos, it'll get a radical yet boxy design. The hexagonal highlights of the design are visible via the alloy wheels, rear glass area and the front profile as well. The tall-boy design will provide more space on the inside of it. Moreover, the butch styling will appeal to rugged buyers looking for typical SUVs.
The long and straight LED DRLs on the test mule hint that the front will get muscular and straight lines all over the bonnet and side fenders. The rear design will be interesting to note as the test car is completely covered from behind. However, the rear reflectors are straight, hinting towards a similar design language as the front.
Engine Options, Launch Time, Price
While the online rumours suggest that the Clavis will get hybrid powertrain options, we suspect it won't happen to the Indian-spec. Currently, Kia has no hybrid powertrain, even on the Seltos. Moreover, the Clavis will be positioned below Seltos, hence, the possibility of it getting a hybrid powertrain is very low.
Kia will expectedly power it with the same engine and transmission options as the Sonet. The performance shall be aggressive and the power figures might be re-tuned. The launch timeline for the Indian market will be the end of 2024. However, it'll not be the first quarter of 2025 that we get to witness the Clavis on public roads. Pricing will be premium over the Sonet. We expect it to range between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 18 lakh. Upon its launch, it will rival the upcoming Tata Curvv and the Maruti Grand Vitara.
Verdict
Kia India has witnessed a tremendous growth with its two SUVs i.e. the Sonet and Seltos. Now, the Clavis SUV will cater the highly competitive mid-size SUV and compact SUV segment. With its bold looks and unique styling, Kia is betting on the young buyers.
