BMW has locked the date of September 11, 2026 to launch the 2026 BMW 7 Series & i7 facelift models. The 7 Series, coincidentally in its seventh generation, made its debut in 2022, so it's been four years, and now the car is getting updated from both exterior and interior, plus under the hood. Moreover, bookings have already started on the official website. Let's learn more about this flagship sedan below.
2026 BMW 7 Series & i7
The BMW 7 Series facelift from the photos appears to have a much more radicalised face with even sharper looking DRLs, bumper design and LED headlamps. The current model is a major headturner but the upcoming one seems to make it even more so. Most importantly, BMW has changed the signature kidney grille and now it features the stripes in horizontal not in vertical like every Beemer. Now, the overall layout is similar, but one can immediately notice that this is something new and unique. The side profile receives minimal changes including a chrome belt running across the windows that adds a touch of sophistication to this flagship sedan. Plus, a new set of alloy wheels possibly of 20-inch.
Moreover, the rear profile has received a big change and that is new tail-lamps that reflect the wings of butterflies and are wider as compared to the current model. Moreover, even the bumper is all new, and it features rear diffusers.
2026 BMW 7 Series Interior

Inside, BMW has completely overhauled the 7 Series cabin with a new layout, similar to what we've recently seen on the international-spec BMW iX3 and i3 sedan. The four-spoke, flat-bottom-and-top steering wheel is new, as is the hexagonal infotainment screen. There's also a panoramic head-up display that projects key vehicle information across the entire width of the windscreen, running pillar to pillar.
On top of that, front passengers get their own 14.6-inch screen, while the main infotainment display measures 17.9 inches.
Rear passengers still get the 31.3-inch Theatre Screen, now updated with 8K resolution, and it can be controlled via door-mounted panels. The automatic doors have also been improved, with revised buttons for opening and closing.
Powertrain
The 2026 BMW 7 Series now makes more power across the range. The petrol 740i xDrive makes 400 hp and 580 Nm of torque, up by 19 hp and 60 Nm. This comes from the same 3.0-litre inline-six mild-hybrid engine. The diesel engine now makes 313 hp and 670 Nm, an increase of 27 hp and 20 Nm. That's the new power output for the 2026 BMW 7 Series. Now, on to the i7.
The entry-level i7 eDrive50 has been replaced by the i7 xDrive50, which now comes with all-wheel drive. It also gets a bigger 112.4kWh battery, up from the earlier 101.7kWh unit. Power is now 455 hp and 660 Nm. The i7 M70 xDrive also gets the larger battery. Its power goes up from 650 hp to 680 hp, and torque rises from 1,015 Nm to up to 1,100 Nm. It's not yet clear if the range-topping i7 M70 xDrive will also launch in India.
End Note
This flagship sedan only has one real competitor and that is the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and their rivalry is as old as Adam and Eve. The current generation of 7 Series and S-Class are both selling in high numbers, but it's the 7 Series that has a better road presence and is seen more, as people love how cool it looks, catering to every generation. On the other hand, the S-Class is more elegant and classier. So, youngsters find the Beemer more attractive, and the upcoming one will put more pressure on the three-pointed-star brand's flagship.
