2026 Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 vs KTM 390 Adventure: Which One Makes More Sense?

Royal Enfield has recently launched Himalayan 440 at Rs. 2.30 lakh, ex-showroom. On other hand, KTM 390 Adventure is there, priced at Rs. 2.87 lakh, ex-showroom. But these two are built for different riders.  One is built for long, easy miles and go-anywhere comfort; the other is tuned for a punchier, more athletic ride. In this 2026 Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Vs KTM 390 Adventure comparison, we will break down things for you.

Dimensions and Ergonomics

Himalayan 440 vs 390 Adv

The 2026 Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is larger with length of 2,190mm and heavier compared to 390 ADV with kerb weight of 199 kg. It has a width of 840mm, height of 1370mm and wheelbase of 1460mm. It offers a ground clearance of 220mm, enough to make your off-road experience a cakewalk. Its seat is also very accessible for an average Indian person with 800 mm.

The KTM 390 Adventure is slightly shorter than Himalayan 440 with the length of 2,154mm, however it is wider with 900mm and has an overall height around 1,400mm. The height and seat height of the bike makes it a bit difficult to be the first choice for short heighted riders as it has 825mm of seat height.

This bike is easy to go through any terrain with ample ground clearance of 228mm and its lighter weight of 181 kg makes it easy to handle. The tank holds slightly less fuel compared to Himalayan 440.

The KTM is the lighter, more nimble machine with better ground clearance, while the Himalayan carries more fuel range and a bulkier, more touring-oriented frame.

Engine and Performance

The 2026 Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 runs on a 443cc air-cooled single cylinder engine. It is an old engine. It produces a power of 25.7 PS and 34 Nm torque, mated with a 6-speed gearbox. It is tuned for relaxed, low-stress cruising rather than outright speed.

The KTM 390 Adventure, on other hand, chooses to offer a 350cc single cylinder engine, producing 41.5 PS and 33.5 Nm of torque, mated with 6-speed gearbox.

KTM, even with the smaller engine, outpowers the Himalayan by a significant margin. This reflects the different characters of the two bikes: the RE prioritizes low-end tractability and long-haul comfort, while the KTM is built for a sportier, more aggressive ride.

Suspension and Braking

Himalayan 440 Vs 390 Adv

The Himalayan 440 uses 41mm telescopic front forks offering 200mm of travel, paired with a linkage-type rear monoshock that offers 180mm of travel. It is a simple, no-nonsense setup. Braking duties are handled by a 300mm front disc with a ByBre two-piston caliper and a 240mm rear disc, with switchable rear ABS.

The KTM 390 Adventure, on the other hand, chooses to offer WP APEX USD front forks with around 200mm of travel, along with a WP APEX rear monoshock offering approximately 205mm of travel, premium hardware that leans towards sportier handling. Braking comes from larger 320mm front and 240mm rear discs, backed by Cornering ABS and switchable Off-Road ABS.

Features

The Himalayan 440 sticks to a functional, adventure-touring toolkit. It offers a semi-digital instrument cluster combining an analogue speedometer with a digital display, the Tripper navigation pod, LED headlamp and tail lamp, and bulb-type indicators.

The KTM 390 Adventure, on the other hand, chooses to go further on the tech front, with a 5-inch TFT display featuring Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, an adjustable windscreen, and full LED lighting.

Conclusion

The 2026 Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 and KTM 390 Adventure, both the bikes are making a strong case for two different kinds of riders. If your priority is a comfortable, go-anywhere machine which feels light on the pocket then, the Himalayan 440 should be your go bike. It offers a relaxed engine character, a touring-friendly frame, and a price tag that undercuts the KTM by a good margin of Rs. 60,000.

The KTM 390 Adventure, on the other hand, is built for riders who want a blend of more performance and premium hardware in the mix. With a stronger engine, sharper suspension, and a longer features list, it justifies its higher price for those chasing a sportier, more engaged riding experience.

In the end, it comes down to what kind of riding you enjoy most. Choose the Himalayan 440 for easy miles and everyday accessibility, or go with the KTM 390 Adventure if you want a bike that pushes you to ride harder.
