Back Story: Why It Disappeared?

The Bajaj Avenger 220 was once a staple in the mid-cruiser segment, which used to sit comfortably below the premium player like Royal Enfield. While this cruiser was known for its ergonomics, styling and affordability. However, it was quietly pulled from the shelves post BS6 transition. At that time, Bajaj streamlined its Avenger lineup, focusing on other variants. As a result, there is a small gap in the mid-cruiser segment.

Fresh Homologation

Currently, the Bajaj is offering only two variants, Avenger Street and Avenger Cruise. But they're going to launch the Street 220 in India soon. Homologation has been recently done, as per the document, Bajaj received official clearance. From what we can gather through the documents, it is 2,120 mm in length, 806 mm in width, and 1,070 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 1,490 mm. Moreover, it has a gross weight of 310 kg.

What To Expect?

The Avenger Street 220 is expected to carry forward the same 220cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. When mated with a 5-speed gearbox, this unit belts out 19.03 PS and 17.55 Nm of peak torque. However, what differentiates it from the siblings is the design philosophy. It features blacked-out alloy wheels, flatter handlebars and minimal chrome, giving it a stealthier presence on the road. Essentially, it swaps the long-haul cruiser persona for a sleeker, more agile street-friendly vibe.

Verdict

The return of the Bajaj Avenger Street 220 fills a much-needed gap in the budget cruiser segment. With its stripped-down urban design, proven 220cc engine, and accessible price point, it's set to appeal to riders who want cruiser comfort with a stealthy street vibe.
