BMW 5 Series LWB Updates: Panorama Glassroof Sky Lounge & More

The biggest addition to the BMW 5 Series LWB is the new Panorama Glassroof Sky Lounge, which elevates the cabin ambiance considerably. The roof features a printed light pattern and integrated LEDs that work in sync with the ambient lighting system and even respond to driving modes. The design remains visible during the day and increases natural light inside, giving the already spacious rear compartment a more open, lounge-like feel.
For 2025, BMW has added Driving Assistant Plus, broadening the sedan's suite of active safety aids. The package includes lane-change warning, front and rear collision warnings, cross-traffic alerts, active cruise control with Stop & Go, which can automatically maintain distance, detect stationary vehicles, and bring the sedan to a halt when required. All functions are controllable via steering-mounted buttons, offering safer and more intuitive operation on highways and in city traffic.

The cabin continues to deliver a rich, business-class experience with its dual-tone vegan leather upholstery, wood-finished dashboard and BMW's signature Interaction Bar that integrates ambient lighting across the fascia. The centre console now features a premium glass-finish surface, further elevating the sedan's luxury quotient. Key feature additions include four-zone automatic climate control, expanded rear-seat space enabled by the long-wheelbase layout, BMW Live Cockpit Plus with a dual-screen interface, Digital Key Plus, wireless charging for both front and rear passengers, and a 655W Bowers & Wilkins 18-speaker audio system. Comfort levels are enhanced with front ventilated seats, while the model also benefits from the 19-inch alloy wheels introduced earlier in 2025 in response to customer feedback.

Powertrain: Mild-Hybrid Turbo-Petrol Continues
BMW has retained the existing drivetrain, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Output figures remain unchanged at 258 PS and 400 Nm, sent to the rear wheels through an automatic Steptronic gearbox. The mild-hybrid tech adds 11 hp and 25 Nm during acceleration, helping improve responsiveness and efficiency. The sedan can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h.
Verdict
With no price increase, BMW has effectively strengthened the 5 Series LWB's value proposition. The addition of a visually striking panoramic roof and a more advanced safety suite ensures the sedan stays competitive against newer rivals. For buyers who prioritise rear-seat comfort, technology, and a refined mild-hybrid drivetrain, the updated 5 Series LWB continues to be one of the most attractive offerings in the segment.
