Ducati DesertX And Monster To Get New 890cc V2 Engine; Details

The DesertX and the Monster are currently the remaining two motorcycles in Ducati's global lineup that are powered by the 937cc Testastretta L-twin powertrain. According to reports, there are leaked documents currently doing the rounds, with a VIN decoder published by the U.S. National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration. The VIN decoder assigns codes to identify and differentiate between model types, and the evidence there states that the Monster and the DesertX are listed with the new engine type. These bikes could likely be shown sometime next year, with an India launch set to follow not long after.

The Monster is available in two versions; the standard Monster and the Monster+. While the Monster SP also used to be on sale here, Ducati seems to have de-listed it from the website. Prices for the current Monster begin from Rs 12.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

Meanwhile, the DesertX is available in three variants; the standard DesertX, the DesertX Rally, and the DesertX Discovery. These are differentiated by hardware elements that get progressively more hardcore for off-roading depending on the variant you pick. While the base DesertX is priced at Rs 18.33 lakh, the DesertX Discovery and the DesertX Rally are priced at Rs 21.78 lakh and Rs 23.70 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom).

Verdict

The 937cc Testastretta powertrain has been around for quite some time, and Ducati has been replacing it with the new 890cc mill in the Streetfighter, Panigale and the Multistrada V2. The DesertX and the Monster will be the next to get it.
