Bicycles come in many distinctive variants and model. Cycles not only vary by make but also by purpose. By purpose, we mean that each cycle has been carefully designed depending on what terrain it will be ridden on.

There are various types of cycles such as mountain bikes, street cycles, E-cycles, Hybrid cycles etc. So buying a cycle depends on what kind of cycling you are going to do. Keep reading to know more about these cycles in detail:

1.Road Bikes:

buying a cycle

Road bikes are also known as racer cycles and as the name suggests, it is used to ride with speed on the tarmac or paved roads.

Key features of road bikes include thinner tyres. When compared with mountain bikes, road bikes have tyres typically sized 23-28 mm. In addition to this, they get drop handlebars which help the rider to maintain a comfortable hand posture. They get a strong and durable frame and are lightweight.

2.Mountain Bikes:

Mountain bike or MTB is the best choice considering the Indian road and terrain conditions. They are meant for off-roading or riding on tough terrains but this said, they can also be used for daily commutes on paved roads. They are extremely comfortable thanks to the suspension setup and bigger tyres.

Key features of mountain bikes include a flat handlebar and suspension kit. They are comfortable and easy to ride on steep inclines thanks to the lower gear ratio.

If you are looking for a cycle that is easy to ride and comfortable, then buying a mountain bike is the best option. However, keep in mind that they are heavy and not lightweight like road bikes.

Hybrid cycles are the best of two worlds ie. mountain and road bikes. They are a mix of these two bikes and is best for touring. They are best for maintaining fitness and comes at an approximate price of Rs.15,000.

NOTE: They have combined features of a mountain and road cycle, however, they are not meant for off-roading.

Carbon Frame: They are extremely lightweight and has anti-rust properties. Purchasing cycles with this type of frame is a serious business since they cost a ton. Carbon frame equipped cycles are usually used by professional cyclists.
