Yesterday, during the media drive of the Honda Elevate facelift, journalists spotted the Honda 0 Alpha EV SUV on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The 0 Alpha was heavily camouflaged, and the test mule did not reveal any major new details. Now, as per several automotive portals, Honda Cars India is expected to unveil the SUV by the end of 2026. So, what more do we know about this upcoming electric SUV? Let’s discuss below.
Honda 0 Alpha EV SUV
The Honda 0 Alpha EV will be Honda’s first electric SUV for the Indian market, and its arrival in India is a big deal for both the country and the brand. Built on an all-new platform from scratch, this isn’t going to be another conventional mid-size electric SUV like the Tata Curvv EV or Hyundai Creta Electric.
The car will also be manufactured in India, which means Honda could price it competitively rather than positioning it at a premium like the Honda ZR-V, which is sold in India through the CBU route.
Why This Is A Big Deal For 0 Alpha ?
With the 0 Alpha EV, Honda could be trying to kill two birds with one stone. First, the company is bringing one of its latest global products to India relatively early. This could help break the old perception that whatever Honda develops internationally either doesn’t come to India or arrives here much later, when it is already nearing the end of its lifecycle in other markets.
The second objective could be to bring back Honda’s aspirational appeal in India. For years, the company has not introduced many new products or technologies in the segment. While Honda cars continue to be known for their reliability, refinement and driving dynamics, the lack of new products has made buyers lose interest in the brand.
The 0 Alpha EV could change that perception. This isn’t a car that Indian buyers have seen from Honda before, and its design, platform and electric powertrain could give the brand a much-needed technological push.
At the moment, there is no confirmed information about the battery specifications of the Honda 0 Alpha EV. However, we expect it to get a battery pack of around 60-65 kWh, considering it will compete in the mid-size electric SUV segment against models such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6 and MG ZS EV.
Talking about the images, there isn't much to discuss at this point. The test mule remains heavily camouflaged, and Honda has not revealed any major design or technical details through this sighting. Late December, is when Honda might showcase this car in India.
