Kia Carens Clavis EV Vs ICE: What's The Difference?

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Clavis EV gets two battery options: 42/kWh and 51.4/kWh, offering up to 490 km of claimed range
  • The ICE version offers 1.5L NA petrol, turbo petrol, and diesel engines, with prices starting from Rs 11.49 lakh

As we are moving towards electrification, Kia has launched their Carens Clavis EV recently. However, about two months ago, they launched the Clavis ICE. Carens was already a practical MPV, whereas Clavis has already carved out a niche for buyers, looking like a bit more premium option. Even the Clavis EV aims to blend the same premiumness with practicality, but of course with zero emissions. In this article, we'll talk about the key differences between the Clavis EV and ICE versions. However, before getting into the details. Powertrain

Starting with this because this is the most fundamental difference between the two. Under the hood, the ICE offers three powertrain options: 1.5-litre NA petrol, 1.5-turbo petrol and 1.5-litre diesel. Meanwhile, the gearbox options include 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, 6-speed AT, and 7-speed DCT unit. On the other hand, the Clavis EV runs on an electric motor that belts out 170 PS and 255 Nm of torque. It is powered by two battery pack options: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. These battery packs give out a claimed range of 400 km and 490 km, respectively, within a single charge.

Design And Styling

Design is the first thing that someone notices and differentiates between them. While both variants share the same basic silhouette but the latter stands out with some noticeable changes. The Clavis gets a sealed front grille with a big charging port at the centre. Moving below, the bumpers have been redesigned along the lower intake at the front. Moving to the side, the only visible difference is the new 17-inch crystal-cut dual-tone aero alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear remains the same.

Features And Interior

Stepping inside, you'll find that the interior layout and features are largely similar, but the EV boasts a bit minimalistic touch. Both versions come with dual 12.25-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats and a Bose sound system. However, the EV version, for obvious reasons, replaces the gear lever with a floating centre console along with wireless charging and extra storage. Apart from this, it gets a few EV-specific features such as vehicle-to-load (V2L). Rest, it gets all standard safety features as the ICE version, along with an ADAS suite.

Pricing And Variants

The Kia Carens Clavis EV has been launched at a starting price of Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), which goes up to Rs 24.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec HTX+. On the other hand, the ICE version comes at s starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top spec HTX+.
