Kia Syros EV Launch Confirmed For July

Kia Syros EV

Kia has confirmed the Syros EV's arrival through its 2026 investor presentation, making it one of the brand's key upcoming launches for the year. It will be the company's second locally manufactured EV in India, signalling a stronger focus on localisation and cost competitiveness. In terms of positioning, the Syros EV will sit below the Kia Carens Clavis EV, making it the most affordable electric vehicle in Kia's lineup. This strategic placement is expected to help the brand tap into the growing demand for compact electric SUVs.

Based on multiple spy sightings, the Kia Syros EV is expected to closely resemble its internal combustion counterpart in terms of overall design. However, subtle EV-specific changes such as a closed-off grille, revised alloy wheels, and unique detailing are likely to set it apart visually. Inside, the layout is expected to remain largely similar to the standard Syros, with a focus on practicality and features. Given that the ICE version is already well-equipped, the EV variant is likely to carry forward a spacious cabin along with a strong feature list, ensuring it remains competitive in its segment.

Platform, Battery & Performance

The Kia Syros EV is expected to be built on the K1 platform, which it shares with the Hyundai Inster EV sold internationally. While official specifications are yet to be revealed, reports suggest that the Syros EV could be offered with a 42kWh battery pack paired with an electric motor producing around 133 bhp and 255 Nm of torque for a probable range of around 300 km. For reference, the Inster EV is available globally with battery options up to 49kWh and a claimed range of up to 369 km, giving a rough idea of what to expect.

The Syros EV is expected to be priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it in the heart of India's compact electric SUV segment. It will compete with established players like the Tata Nexon EV and others.

Verdict

The arrival of the Kia Syros EV signals Kia's intent to strengthen its foothold in India's rapidly evolving EV space. By positioning it as an affordable yet feature-rich option, the brand is clearly targeting volume growth rather than just niche appeal. If priced competitively and backed by a strong feature set, the Syros EV could bring in more volume for the. brand, especially for buyers looking to transition from ICE vehicles to EVs without stretching their budgets too far.
