Hyundai Ioniq 5 Facelift Spied: What's Visible From Under The Camo

The facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 5 retains its signature futuristic styling but introduces a few carefully executed updates. Up front, a revised bumper with a more open and sportier design gives it a sharper look, while the rear gets a reworked bumper and a slightly extended roof spoiler that improves aerodynamic efficiency. New alloy wheels with a more aero-focused design also make an appearance. These changes have marginally increased the car's overall length, though the proportions remain largely unchanged. The India-spec model, as seen in spy shots, continues with conventional ORVMs instead of the camera-based setup available in some global markets.

Hyundai has also worked on improving overall refinement. Structural reinforcements to the body, including stronger doors and pillars, aim to enhance safety, while suspension tweaks and upgraded dampers are expected to reduce vibrations and improve ride quality. Additional sound insulation is being offered to further enhance cabin quietness, which is crucial for an electric vehicle.

Interior & Features

Although not visible in these spy shots, globally, Hyundai has focused on improving everyday usability rather than completely redesigning the cabin. A new three-spoke steering wheel with pixel lighting adds a fresh visual element, while the centre console now features more physical buttons for frequently used functions like seat ventilation, heating, and parking assist. The wireless charging pad has been repositioned for easier access, and the infotainment system now runs updated software with over-the-air (OTA) update capability. Although the layout is expected to be identical to the global variant, it's the features list that could be tweaked a little for Indian markets.

Battery, Range & Performance

2026 Hyundai IONIQ 5 Facelift Spied

The biggest update for the facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 5 lies beneath the surface. The new model is expected to feature a larger 84 kWh battery pack, replacing the current 72.6 kWh unit. In rear-wheel-drive form, this setup produces around 218 hp and 350 Nm of torque, similar to the outgoing model, but the real gain comes in range. The updated version claims up to 570 km (WLTP), a significant improvement over the current model's figures. Fast-charging capability also remains a strong point, with support for up to 350 kW DC charging, enabling a 10 to 80 percent charge in under 20 minutes under ideal conditions. This will continue to position the Ioniq 5 facelift as one of the more practical long-range EVs in its class once launched.

India Launch Timeline & Expected Price

The facelifted Hyundai Ioniq 5 is expected to launch in India in the coming months, likely within Q2 2026. With the current model priced at around Rs 46.3 lakh (ex-showroom), the updated version could command a slight premium. Once launched, it will continue to compete with premium EVs like the Kia EV6, BMW iX1 LWB, and Volvo EX30.

Verdict

The Ioniq 5 facelift's biggest improvement, one that buyers would really like, is its expected increased real-world range with a bigger battery pack. However, the in-cabin experience and visual tweaks will be plenty as well, the range anxiety is something that is still an uphill climb for people looking at EVs as their primary ride. Other than that, the Ioniq 5 is already a solid product in itself and with these updates, it will only get better with time.
