KTM has just announced a significant pricing update for the KTM 390 Duke, the bike is now Rs 40,000 costlier that takes its ex-showroom cost to Rs 3.39 lakh (Delhi). The price revision comes after Bajaj Auto decided to stop absorbing the additional GST burden introduced by the Indian government for motorcycles above 350cc, back in September 2025. Price Hike

The recent price increase is largely associated with the GST revision that put a higher 40 percent tax on motorcycles with engine capacities above 350cc. Previously it was 18 percent for sub-350cc models but in September these brackets were revised resulting in a sudden hike across this segment. However, Bajaj chose not to transfer this burden on the consumers shoulders, instead it chose to absorb the added costs for KTM's 390 range, ensuring stable pricing while competitors adjusted their rates.
But with the latest update, that strategy has been discontinued. As a result, the 390 Duke, which was previously priced at Rs 2.99 lakh, now sees an increase of Rs 40,000. This hike also widens the price gap between the 390 Duke and its smaller sibling, the 250 Duke, making the difference more pronounced than before.
Impact on Buyers

The price revision is likely to affect not only new buyers but also those who have already booked the motorcycle. Customers waiting for the delivery may have to pay the extra amount, depending on dealership policies. Currently the price hike applies to the 390 Duke, and it is expected that other models such as RC 390, 390 Adventure, and 390 Enduro could receive similar revisions in the near future.
Upcoming 350cc Models
To deal with higher GST on bigger engines, Bajaj and KTM are working on new sub-350cc bikes with smaller engines. GST price on bigger engines, Bajaj and KTM are reportedly working on a new range of sub-350cc motorcycles. These upcoming models are expected to come with downsized engines that fall below the 350cc threshold, allowing them to enjoy the lower 18 percent GST rate benefit.
As per the reports Bajaj and KTM will likely follow a dual-product strategy for the Indian market, selling both the existing 399cc models and the upcoming sub-350cc variants simultaneously. Following this approach would allow the brand to cater to two distinct customer groups, those seeking higher performance and those prioritising value for money.

Verdict
The Rs 40,000 price hike for the KTM 390 Duke reflects a broader industry adjustment to taxation changes rather than a product update. While it raises the entry cost for enthusiasts, the anticipated launch of sub-350cc models could help balance affordability and performance in KTMs lineup going forward.
