Land Rover Defender India Launch on October 15

Land Rover Defender is the most talked SUV in 2020 and the pricing of the SUV was announced last year. Thanks to COVID, the official launch and the deliveries saw a delay. As things have settled down, India launch of the Land Rover Defender is slated for October 15 through a digital launch event. It is worth noting that only the Defender 110 (5-door) will be launched on October 15 and the Defender 90 will be launched at a later date.

The Land Rover Defender traces its roots and design from the older Defender and sports the iconic design despite being modern. India is expected to get both the 90 and 110 incarnations of the Defender but no six-cylinder engines are expected. Globally, the Land Rover Defender gets a slew of engine options including inline-6 engines. However, India is expected to get the 2.0-litre four-pot petrol engine followed by the 400e plug-in hybrid in late 2020.

Talking about the design of the Land Rover Defender, the front of the SUV is butch and high set with LED headlights and clamshell bonnet. The lower part of the bumper sees skid plates and accessory mounts as well. The side of the profile is reminiscent of the old Defender with the similar plane shoulder line merging to the taillights. The rear profile of the Defender is unique too - with cube-shaped LED taillights - featuring small LED lamps.

The interiors of the Defender are rich in quality and also offers the rugged feel. We have the exposed aluminium frame on the dashboard and the door panels also get exposed frame and nuts. The Defender is not made to offer you the best luxury but to make you experience its offroading prowess. The Defender was also the first JLR model to get the Pivi Pro infotainment system which gets live map updates, OTA updates and wireless inbuilt Spotify.

Talking about the powertrains - although nothing is confirmed - India will get the 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The expected power is 300 PS and 400 Nm of torque and the 2.0-litre engine will power both 90 and 110 models. The Defender is popular for its legendary terrain response system which offers a slew of offroad modes.

With the price going north of 69.99 lakh for the base trim, we assume most of the buyers won't take the Defender offroad but if you decide to do so, it will be a cake walk for the Defender. Land Rover announced the prices of the Defender in Feburary 2020 and it was offered in base, S, SE, HSE and first edition. Land Rover may alter the prices announced earlier at the official India launch of the Defender.
