Mahindra Thar 5-Door Global Debut On 15th Aug In South Africa- Details

Mahindra is ready to unveil the much-awaited Mahindra Thar 5-door on 15th August this year in South Africa. This is a ritual that the carmaker follows on Indian Independence Day. And this time, it is 4th in line after Mahindra Thar, Mahindra XUV700, and the electric SUVs that were unveiled globally in 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively.

But why South Africa? A lot of you may wonder. It is because South Africa is one of the biggest international markets of Mahindra, and it has had its roots there since 1996. With Mahindra XUV700 registering good numbers for the carmaker, the Scorpio N boosted sales even further. The XUV300 is another decent sales booster in South Africa as well.

Keeping the acceptance of Mahindra's big SUV in the country, the Thar 5-Door will be a major seller too. So, a global debut there makes sense and also more revenues.

Details

Since the Thar 5-door has been the talk of the town for quite some time now, the Jimny 5-door launch has hyped the Mahindra's off-roader even more. Spied on quite a few occasions, we have some knowledge of what's to come. A single-pane sunroof is finally here along with 2 extra doors for practicality. This makes it a more family-friendly go-anywhere offroader.

The Thar 5-door will be a more beefed-up take on the 3-door version. Not only is it longer in wheelbase, but also taller and wider.

Engine Specs

It borrows the 2.2-liter diesel and the 2.0-liter petrol unit from the current Thar where the former puts out 131 PS with 300 Nm of torque. The latter is good for 152 PS with a peak torque of 320 Nm.

Indian Launch

As confirmed by the company just recently, no new products are coming in 2023. They will be focusing on fulfilling the long pending sheet of the order of the XUV700 and the Scorpio-N. The Thar 5-door will make its way to the showrooms sometime in 2024.
