Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: Bookings Open In October, Launch By Year-End

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that bookings for the new GLC Electric will open in India from the first week of October, with the launch set to follow towards the end of 2026. The SUV will be locally assembled at Mercedes' Chakan plant in Pune, and the company says this marks the fastest a global Mercedes model has reached India in assembled form, arriving within six months of its European sales debut.

Pricing is expected to fall between Rs 84 lakh and Rs 85 lakh (ex-showroom) when the GLC Electric launches in India. Bookings open in the first week of October 2026, and the SUV is scheduled to go on sale before the year ends. Since it will be built locally, Mercedes should be able to hold pricing fairly competitive against rivals that come in fully imported.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: battery, range and performance

In India, the GLC Electric will be offered in a single 400 4Matic guise, built around a 94kWh NMC battery pack rated for up to 715km of range on the WLTP cycle. Two motors give it all-wheel drive, with combined output rated at 490hp and 800Nm. Mercedes claims a 0-100kph time of 4.3 seconds, a strong figure considering the SUV's kerb weight of over 2500kg. Rear-wheel steering comes as standard too, which should help with manoeuvrability given the car's size.

As for dimensions, the India-spec model sticks with the standard wheelbase of 2972mm. Mercedes does build a longer wheelbase version for China with an extra 55mm of length, but it has chosen not to bring that version here, a departure from its usual pattern of offering long-wheelbase models for Indian buyers.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: exterior design

Design-wise, the GLC Electric carries Mercedes' newer visual language, with a large illuminated grille and star-pattern LED lighting elements up front. Its overall silhouette stays close to the standard GLC, and the rounded proportions keep it visually restrained compared to some of Mercedes' recent launches. AMG Line variants get more aggressive bumpers, while the rear gets a wraparound light band linking the taillights. Wheel sizes go up to 21 inches depending on variant.

Step inside and the biggest talking point is the 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen, the largest display Mercedes has ever fitted to a car. It runs the full width of the dashboard, merging the driver's instrument cluster, the central touchscreen and a passenger display into a single unit. Beneath that sits an updated version of MBUX, with a cleaner menu structure and a built-in AI assistant.

Notably, Mercedes has also reintroduced physical buttons and knobs on the steering wheel and centre console, moving away from the touch-sensitive controls that had become common on its EVs. Even so, the cabin still leans heavily digital, and the wood trim on the centre console and lower dashboard adds some warmth to an otherwise screen-heavy layout.

Mercedes-Benz GLC Electric: rivals

Once it arrives, the GLC Electric's main rival in India will be the BMW iX3, which is set to launch next year in long-wheelbase form. Both cars target buyers looking for a premium electric SUV with a badge that carries weight, and pricing between the two is likely to sit close together once the iX3 arrives.
