Mini Convertible Stardust Edition Launched in India: All You Need to Know

Mini has pulled the wraps off a new limited-run variant of its open-top hatch for the Indian market, called the Stardust Edition. Positioned as a niche, higher-priced offering within the Convertible lineup, the car is being brought in as a fully imported unit and is up for booking only through the brand's official India website, with deliveries starting right away. Pricing and How to Buy One

The Stardust Edition carries an ex-showroom sticker of Rs. 62.90 lakh. As with any CBU import, buyers should factor in road tax, TCS, RTO charges, insurance and other statutory costs on top of this figure, and the final on-road price will depend on what's applicable at the time of billing. Since the car is sold in limited numbers and only via the MINI India online store, interested buyers won't find it listed through regular showroom inventory.

What Makes the Stardust Edition Different

MINI says the whole concept behind this edition was to bottle the fleeting colour palette of the sky just after sunset - a moody, ever-changing gradient rather than a single fixed shade. To achieve that, the brand has paired a deep grey base coat with metallic copper undertones, giving the paint a shimmering, almost dusty texture that shifts depending on the light. MINI is calling the shade Sparkling Copper Grey, and it's paired with silver-finished mirror caps for contrast.

Rolling stock duty is handled by 18-inch alloy wheels from MINI's JCW Rallye Spoke range, also finished in the same silver tone, which the brand says helps sharpen the car's stance. Up front, the design leans on MINI's familiar round-headlamp face and a reworked grille, with the LED headlamps running three distinct light patterns to change up the car's expression. There's also a small theatrical touch: the exterior lighting puts on a brief animated sequence when you approach or leave the car, projecting the MINI logo onto the ground. At the back, slim vertical LED tail lamps and a wide badge strip round off the look.

The Roof Is the Real Party Piece

Since this is a convertible, the soft top gets special attention. MINI has dressed the fabric roof - badged as the MINI Yours Soft Top - in a woven Union Jack pattern, a deliberate reference to the brand's British roots. Functionally, it's a fully powered unit: it can retract completely in 18 seconds and can be lowered on the move at speeds up to 30 km/h, with the side windows dropping in sync for an unobstructed view. Closing takes 15 seconds. There's also a halfway mode that turns the roof into a 40 cm sunroof-style opening at any speed. Boot space naturally changes with the roof position - 160 litres with the top stowed, rising to 215 litres when it's shut.

Cabin Tech and Creature Comforts

Step inside and the design language mirrors classic Mini cues - simple shapes, minimal buttons, and a single circular OLED screen front and centre that doubles up as both the instrument cluster and infotainment display. This runs MINI's latest Operating System 9, which borrows heavily from smartphone-style app interfaces for easier navigation. A voice assistant, triggered by saying "Hey MINI," handles tasks like setting a destination, placing calls or controlling media.

Other tech on board includes a phone-as-key function through the MINI app that can be shared across multiple users along with their saved settings, a head-up display, and a premium sound system tuned by Harman Kardon. The car also supports over-the-air software updates, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote vehicle functions via the app, real-time weather updates on the display, and an SOS-style emergency calling feature.

A row of physical toggle switches sits ahead of the gear selector, covering functions like start-stop, the parking brake, drive mode selection and volume - a nod to the analogue switchgear MINI is known for. Just below sits a wireless phone charging pad. Seats are trimmed in Vescin, MINI's synthetic leather alternative made from recycled material, and get electric adjustment along with an "Active Seat" mode designed to add extra support over longer drives.

Behind the wheel, drivers can toggle between several preset "Experience Modes" - ranging from a go-kart-style setting sharpened for spirited driving, to an efficiency-focused eco mode, to a more energetic, colourful cabin theme - each of which also tweaks ambient lighting, sound and the graphics on the display.

Powertrain and Performance

Power comes from a turbocharged petrol engine under MINI's TwinPower Turbo family, sending 204 hp (150 kW) to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Peak torque is rated at 300 Nm. MINI quotes a 0-100 kmph time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 240 kmph - quick numbers for a compact convertible.

Efficiency-minded features carried over from the standard car include auto start-stop, brake energy recovery, active grille shutters and electric power steering, while the alloy wheels themselves use recycled aluminium to trim the car's material footprint.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the safety front, the Stardust Edition comes with dual front airbags plus side curtain airbags, ABS with cornering brake control, stability control, a crash sensor, a reversing camera, tubeless tyres with a pressure monitor, and three-point seatbelts across the board. Driver-assist features include adaptive cruise control and a parking assist system, and the car also gets a proximity-based keyless entry function that locks and unlocks automatically once the key is within about 1.5 metres.

Warranty, Service and Finance Options

MINI is backing the car with a two-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and 24x7 roadside assistance for the same period, both of which carry over to a new owner if the car is resold. Service packages start at 3 years/40,000 km and can be extended up to 10 years or 1,00,000 km, and buyers also have the option to push warranty cover out to a maximum of ten years from the third year of ownership.
