Nissan has launched its new Gravite MPV in India, entering the affordable 7-seater segment with a familiar yet intriguing proposition. Based on the same platform as the Renault Triber, the Gravite brings Nissan's sharper styling and a slightly more premium appeal to an already practical car. With families constantly looking for space without stretching their budget, this new model sparks an obvious curiosity: Is the Gravite simply a rebadged Triber, or has Nissan added enough character to make buyers consider it the better choice? Nissan Gravite

The all-new Nissan Gravite carries a similar silhouette to the Renault Triber. When it comes to finer details, Nissan has gone to great lengths to differentiate the Gravite from its Triber roots. A wider V-motion grille, sleeker headlamps and chunkier bumper detailing give the MPV a more SUV-like stance rather than the simple family-car look. The bonnet lines are more pronounced, too, helping the Gravite appear slightly bolder on the road. At the rear, smoked tail-lamps, a sculpted tailgate and a thicker bumper treatment continue the tougher theme. It's clear Nissan hasn't tried to reinvent the shape, instead it has focused on giving the same practical body a more aggressive and premium visual identity, which could appeal to buyers who want space without sacrificing style.

Interiors

Inside the cabin, the Gravite is likely to retain a sensible and easy-to-use layout, closely resembling the practicality seen in the Triber. It is expected to come in a flexible 7-seater (5+2) arrangement, with the option to remove the third row whenever extra boot space is needed.

While the features package includes a twin-display arrangement, combining a 7-inch digital driver display with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. Additionally, the Gravite gets a push-start button, wireless phone charging, cruise control, a chilled glovebox, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers and much more. Meanwhile, safety is taken care of by the six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, tyre pressure monitoring system, parking sensors with camera and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

Powertrain

The Nissan Gravite is powered by the same 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol mill carried over from the Triber. It belts out 72ps and 96Nm of torque when paired up with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT unit. Notably, a dual-cylinder CNG kit will be launched later on, which will be available at the dealerships.

Pricing

The Nissan Gravite is available at an introductory price of Rs 5.65 lakh (ex-showroom), which undercuts the Renault Triber by Rs 11,000. Moreover, there will be a special launch edition, which is limited to 1,001 customers only.

Verdict

The Gravite isn't a radical reinvention, and it doesn't try to be. Instead, Nissan has taken an already sensible family car and added sharper styling, better road presence and a touch of extra desirability without disturbing its affordability. For buyers who always liked the Triber's practicality but wanted something that looked a bit more special, the Gravite could quietly turn out to be the smarter pick in the budget 7-seater segment.
