No Road Tax on Hybrid Cars in Uttar Pradesh : Save upto 4.4 lakh on Camry, Hycross others

While Nitin Gadkari has been trying to get taxes down from 45 to 12% on Hybrid cars (read our REPORT), it seems states are taking matters into their own hands to promote this eco-friendly technology. We have exclusive access to confirmed report that Uttar Pradesh government has waived off road tax completely on (strong) Hybrid cars. According to the official creative from a Toyota dealer in Uttar Pradesh, if you purchase hybrid models like the Camry, Hyryder, and Hycross, you can save up to Rs 4.4 lakh on the on-road price. This also means you can save on Hybrid models from Maruti Suzuki - namely the Grand Vitara and the Invicto. This reduction in road tax further narrows the gap between the on-road price of a regular petrol model and a Hybrid. With this new scheme, it makes even more sense to opt for a Hybrid vehicle in my opinion.

What's the catch? For now, only the state of Uttar Pradesh is offering this incentive. This means, you will need an address proof of UP to get a Hybrid home in your name! However, online rumours suggest that other states might follow the same trend. If this becomes true, 2024 might be the best time to purchase a Hybrid car. As compared to conventional petrol models, a Hybrid model ends up delivering 60-70% better fuel economy in urban conditions and about 30% at highway speeds. The pure EV mode further adds to the convenience factor as well.
