Skoda Kodiaq

The second generation Skoda Kodiaq, the flagship Skoda model in India, was launched on April 17th and is now being rolled out to showrooms, allowing potential customers to test drive it. According to officials at Skoda, the response they have received so far has been tremendous, and they are confident that it will sell in large numbers. Additionally, this second generation is being brought to India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, meaning its parts are imported and then assembled locally.

This luxurious 7-seater SUV is powered by a 2.0L TSI EVO petrol engine, producing 203 PS and 320 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. It is a full-time AWD SUV with a claimed fuel efficiency of 14.86 kmpl, as per ARAI. Moreover, it is available in two variants: Sportline and Selection L&K. There is a Rs 2 lakh ex-showroom price difference between the two, with the L&K variant offering more features and an appealing aesthetic due to the abundance of chrome. On the other hand, the Sportline does justice to its name, featuring a more athletic vibe.
Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India shares, "The all-new Kodiaq is the perfect embodiment of precision engineering combined with unparalleled luxury, seven-seat versatility, and 4x4 abilities. The response since its unveil has been extremely encouraging, and we're pleased to begin customer deliveries across the country starting today. Having recently taken on the role of Brand Director for Skoda Auto India, this new-gen Kodiaq marks an important milestone for me and the team, as we shape the next phase of our growth journey in India."

Verdict
The Skoda Kodiaq competes with the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, and Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. While the Tiguan R-Line is a completely different beast - a 5-seater, performance-oriented SUV - both share similar pricing. The Kodiaq is the better choice for those who prioritize comfort, advanced tech, and German engineering, along with supreme driving dynamics. However, despite its price tag of over Rs 50 lakh, this SUV misses out on some modern features like ADAS, which are now available in cars costing around Rs 15 lakh.
