Kia Carens Clavis: A Bump Up Than Carens

Visually, the Kia Carens Clavis doesn't stray far from its current form, but subtle updates give it a fresher appeal. Up front, the design now leans into Kia's newer design language, borrowing cues from the EV6 with sharper headlamps and a sleeker DRL signature. The grille remains positioned low in the bumper, while the upper section of the nose stays clean and minimalist. Along the sides, the silhouette stays mostly unchanged, though new alloy wheel designs in 16- and 17-inch sizes add some visual variety. At the rear, changes are modest, with a restyled bumper and slightly tweaked tail lamps rounding off the updates. While the front takes the charge of substantial tweaks on the outside, it is the interiors that get the major overhaul, both in terms of layout, styling and features.

The interior of the Kia Carens Clavis has seen a significant overhaul, drawing heavy inspiration from the Syros. Taking centre stage is a new two-spoke steering wheel and a sleek, connected 26.62-inch display panel that houses both the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. The instrument cluster now adopts the digital twin-dial layout seen in the updated Seltos, while the centre console layout closely mirrors that of the Syros as well. Buyers will have a choice between an all-black theme or a dual-tone beige and black interior.

In terms of tech and convenience, the Carens Clavis makes a leap forward with the inclusion of a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite offering 20 safety and driver-assistance features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and forward collision warning with auto braking. Other notable additions include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats with 4-step power adjustment for the driver, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, voice command support, remote vehicle controls, and six airbags as standard across the lineup.

Engine Options

Under the hood, the Kia Carens Clavis continues with the same trio of powertrain options as before. The range starts with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 113 bhp and 144 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Next is the more powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit producing 158 bhp and 244 Nm, available with a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT, or a 7-speed DCT. For those looking for more efficiency, there's also a 1.5-litre diesel engine that puts out 114 bhp and 250 Nm of torque.

Verdict

Kia Carens Clavis is the Syros moment of Carens, and looks like the brand has been able to balance the model line-up in this scenario. Although the Syros cannibalised the sales from both the Seltos and Sonet, the standard Carens is currently being offered in juts a single trim, a move that might have stemmed to keep the offerings separate and with obvious distinction.
