Suzuki Gixxer 250 Recall: What's the Issue?

According to Suzuki, the problem arises from the installation of a rear brake caliper assembly originally designed for the V-Strom SX. On the Suzuki Gixxer 250 range, this component causes improper contact between brake pads and discs, leading to uneven wear and reduced braking efficiency. While the issue does not immediately compromise rider safety, prolonged use may impact braking performance over time.

Recall Process

Suzuki has begun reaching out to affected owners, asking them to schedule an appointment at their nearest service center. Trained technicians will inspect and replace the faulty brake assembly free of charge. Customers can also verify if their motorcycle falls within the recall batch by checking the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) or contacting a Suzuki dealership directly. This is not the first recall for the Gixxer 250 series. Back in February 2024, Suzuki recalled the Gixxer 250, Gixxer SF 250, and the V-Strom SX over a camshaft issue, showing the company's proactive approach to product quality.

Both the Gixxer 250 naked streetfighter and the Gixxer SF 250 faired sportbike are powered by a 249cc single-cylinder, SOHC, oil-cooled engine, producing 26.5 hp and 22 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. While they haven't been top sellers in India, the Gixxer 250 range has built a reputation for refinement and versatility among enthusiasts.

Verdict

Suzuki's decision to recall over 5,000 units highlights its focus on rider safety and brand trust. While the Gixxer 250 range continues to fly under the radar in terms of sales, such proactive measures could reassure existing customers about long-term ownership. With the recall being free of cost and service support actively reaching out to owners, Suzuki is making sure its 250cc lineup maintains credibility in this competitive and high volume segment.
