The Kawasaki Z 1100 Makes Its Global Debut; Could It Be India-Bound?

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Z 1100 shares its powertrain with the Ninja 1100SX.
  • Look familiar to the old Z 1000 but with a few tweaks.
  • A 5-inch TFT screen and riding aids also available.

The Kawasaki Z 1100 has finally made its global debut nearly a year after the Ninja 1100SX and the Versys 1100 were shown globally for the first time. The Z 1100 is available in the standard version and the SE. This motorcycle could potentially replace the Z 900 in India, but more on that later.

Kawasaki Z 1100 Details

The Kawasaki Z 1100 looks quite familiar, largely resembling the old Z 1000 from many years ago. However, the Z 1100 gets a mildly-updated headlamp, a single exhaust muffler and redesigned tank shrouds. That said, these updates feel rather subtle and even in pictures you have to look closely to identify them.

Underneath the familiar looks, the Z 1100 borrows its powertrain and some hardware bits from the Ninja 1100SX. The 1099cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four engine produces 131bhp at 9000rpm and 112.9Nm of torque at 7600rpm, which are the same figures also seen on the Ninja 1100SX. The twin-tube aluminium frame is suspended on fully-adjustable 41mm USD forks and a gas-charged monoshock. For braking, it makes use of 310mm, twin floating discs with Brembo monobloc four-piston callipers , along with a 260mm disc with a single-piston calliper.

In terms of features, the Z 1100 comes with electronic rider aids, a slipper clutch, power modes, traction control, cruise control, a quickshifter, a 5-inch TFT screen with smartphone connectivity, navigation, and engine braking control among other things.

Verdict

Kawasaki has not made any official comments regarding the Z 1100 in India, but given that the Ninja 1100SX and the Versys 1100 are already here, the Z 1100 should not be too far behind, and it could likely replace the Z 900 once here, while also competing against the Honda CB 1000 Hornet SP.
