KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- This is going to be an all-electric scooter likely competing against the TVS iQube, Ather Rizta and the Bajaj Chetak.
- The design looks very similar to the original ZX but with modern elements.
- It carries over the tri-spoke alloy setup, and it also appears to get a mid-mount electric motor.
The Kinetic DX is finally coming back after a long, long hiatus, and we believe this was more of a 'when', and not an 'if', especially after the formation of Kinetic Watts And Volts that took place recently.

The Kinetic DX Is Coming Back; Details
The Kinetic DX will a see a revival similar to what we saw the with the e-Luna moped, which means there will be an all-electric motor underneath the familiar design. This also means you should not be expecting that 2-stroke drone, the bluish-white smoke coming out of its exhaust pipe, or that iconic starting sound when you thumb the red square starter button.

Speaking of the design, the new DX appears to be very close to the original, but there are some differentiating bits. Sure, the rectangular ORVMs and the head unit are of the same shape, but the headlamp appears to be a slimmer, rounded-rectangular unit, flanked by DRLs on either side, and also what appear to be turn-indicators in the shape of the Kinetic company logo. It is possible that the new ZX may get the DRLs and turn indicators integrated in the same unit similar to what we have seen in some modern cars.

The rest of the front seems rather straightforward, with the smooth, flat body panels. The patent image also shows that the tri-spoke alloy rim setup, but unlike the original, the new DX will feature telescopic forks up front. The side panels are also smooth and flat, just like the original, and they even feature the same triple air vents towards the rear.
Unlike the original, the upcoming DX electric will not come with a spare wheel, and there is no clear view of the rear available. However, it seems like the iconic square tail lamp and indicators may be restyled just a little bit to keep it up front with the times, while also adding to the nostalgia of simpler times.

It is probably too soon to be speaking about the specifications, battery range and power figures, but we expect these figures to be on-par with the likes of the Bajaj Chetak, the TVS iQube, and the Ather Rizta. For reference, these scooters come with battery pack options ranging between 2.2kWh and 3.7kWh, depending on the model and the variant. As for the features, we can likely expect at least an LCD screen with smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and call/SMS alerts on the higher variants.
It is quite difficult to comment on the timeline of this scooter's launch. However, we can expect Kinetic to start rolling out teasers later this year, with a launch possibly early next year.

Verdict
This will be a rather interesting way for Kinetic to approach the electric two-wheeler segment, turning back to a design that evokes nostalgia. However, Kinetic would do well to position the scooter carefully, especially if it wants to compete against the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube and the Ather Rizta.
