The upcoming Tata Prima LNG truck has been spied testing for the first time over the public roads. The new bi-fuel truck is deemed to extend Tata's commercial product lineup. The bi-fuel truck is aimed to add to the green mobility moto adopted by the government of India.

Tata Motors is a leading brand in the commercial vehicle segment in India. Tata already sells the successful Tata Prima range with the likes of the models including - Prima 4625.S, Prima FL 5530.S, etc. The testing of the bi-fuel truck equated to the fact that Tata is working on alternative fuel options for its heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) such as the Prima series.

Tata Motors introduced the Prima heavy commercial trucks back in 2008. The introduction of the Prima series became a game-changer for Tata Motors in the HCV segment. As many of the rivals were still developing their HCV products, the Prima series took over the market with its reliable mechanicals. Additionally, the fleet owners were happy to own the Prima series HCVs because of the service network provided by Tata pan India. To take over the commercial segment it is very necessary to have access to spare parts and service centers after the sales. Tata Motors has mastered to this and the result is the Prima series.

Speaking of the LPG spied test mule, the design was visible through the camouflaged dress code. It seems that Tata will introduce a new front fascia that will differentiate the Prima LNG from its regular diesel-powered siblings. Although, there would not be hefty changes in the design subtle rework can be expected. The front grille shall be redesigned to help intake more air and the new mechanicals behind it. Also, Tata will embrace the new truck with projector headlights as seen over the other Prima series trucks.

The test mule was seen carrying a freight carrier behind it. The 4-axled freight container could mean that Tata might be testing it with 'underload' capacity. Also, the total driving range of the LNG will be tested and thus it will require to attach of the horse to the freight carrier. While CNG (compressed natural gas) is a common bi-fuel option among the LCV (light commercial vehicles); LNG is a liquid form of the CNG called the Liquified Natural Gas. While the CNG is pushed inside the tank with compression, the LNG is liquefied and transferred like petrol or diesel fuel easily. This liquification helps in multiple methods which in turn can be used for effective & economical commercial transport purposes.

We hope that other manufacturers will also start developing bi-fuel options for commercial vehicles. As the increment in the emission goes north day by day; the bi-fuel commercial vehicles will help contain and lessen the adverse emission levels pan India.
