VinFast Electric Scooter Strategy For India

VinFast currently offers scooters such as the Feliz, Klara Neo, Evo Grand, Vento S, Theon S, and Vero X in Vietnam, each with a different design approach and performance profile. These scooters use either hub-mounted or side-mounted motors, with top speeds ranging roughly between 60- 99 kmph and battery ranges that can stretch to around 160 km. However, before any model is confirmed for India, VinFast will be testing them thoroughly under local conditions to shape the final selection. It is also a possibility that the scooters may be introduced under a dedicated sub-brand to clearly position them against established rivals.

Aiming For The Volume Segment, But With A Global Approach
For VinFast, India represents both a challenge and an opportunity. The electric scooter market is currently dominated by Ather, TVS, Bajaj's Chetak, and Hero's Vida, all of whom have strong dealer networks and deep localisation. To compete effectively, VinFast will need an aggressive pricing strategy, high localisation levels, and a strong after-sales and charging ecosystem. Fortunately, the company already has a sizeable stake in India's EV future. VinGroup has announced a large investment plan for the country, and work is underway at the new manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. While this plant currently focuses on electric cars, it will also likely support the localisation of electric scooters once the products are finalised. VinFast's parallel plans to develop EV charging networks, ride-hailing services, and even electric buses indicate a long-term commitment to India.

If all goes as planned, the first VinFast electric scooter for India will arrive toward the end of 2026, possibly aligning with the festive season to maximise demand. The company is expected to begin testing prototypes in India well in advance, after which regulatory clearances and localisation work will follow.
Verdict
VinFast's entry into India's electric two-wheeler space won't go unnoticed. The company has global EV experience, a rapidly expanding presence in India, and serious investment backing. What remains to be seen is how the brand positions itself, whether with premium, feature-rich scooters or with value-driven offerings designed to challenge the big names in the mass market. Either way, 2026 is going to be an exciting year for upcoming electric scooters, and VinFast's arrival could add a fresh new dynamic to one of India's fastest-growing automotive segments
