Mahindra has established a strong foothold in the ladder-frame off-road SUV segment in India, with the Thar lineup enjoying strong demand and brand recall. Mahindra Thar Roxx: Possible 1.5 Diesel Engine Or A New Variant
Currently, the Mahindra Thar Roxx is offered with two engine options, a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel. Both these engines are also used in the standard three-door Thar, delivering strong performance and off-road capability. However, the three-door version of the Thar also offers a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, which has not yet been introduced on the Thar Roxx. This has led to speculation that Mahindra could soon expand the powertrain options by bringing this smaller diesel engine to the Mahindra Thar Roxx lineup.
If introduced, the 1.5-litre diesel variant could serve as a more affordable option and potentially become the new entry point into the Thar Roxx range. At present, the SUV starts from Rs 12.39 lakh (ex-showroom) for the MX1 2.0 petrol MT 2WD variant. A smaller diesel engine could allow Mahindra to lower the starting price and attract a broader set of buyers.

Another interesting detail from the recently spotted test vehicle is its unusual feature combination. The test mule was seen equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels along with a single-pane sunroof. Currently, the 19-inch wheels are offered only on higher trims such as the AX7L and the special Star Edition, both of which come with a panoramic sunroof. The presence of 19-inch wheels alongside a smaller single-pane sunroof suggests that Mahindra could be testing a new mid-to-high trim variant.

The latest spy shots indicate that Mahindra may be preparing to expand the Mahindra Thar Roxx lineup with either a new powertrain option or an additional variant.
