VW Golf GTI: Import Units In Limited Number

Volkswagen is finally introducing the Golf GTI to India, with pre-bookings set to begin on May 5, 2025. This will be the first time the hot hatch is officially available in the country, and it'll be coming in limited numbers as a full import as a CBU. Bookings can be made online through Volkswagen's official site, and deliveries are expected to start as early as next month. Powering the Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, staying true to its performance-oriented roots. With limited availability and strong enthusiast interest, it's likely that it will sell out quickly, even after considering its rich price tag for a hatch.

Although its main talking point is its sportier engine, the cabin will not be left behind in the race either, as it packs a host of premium features to match its performance pedigree. Inside, it boasts a 32.8 cm touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 26.04 cm fully digital cockpit, seven-speaker sound system, wireless charging, IDA voice control, and both wired and wireless App-Connect, panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, and 30-colour ambient lighting. On the safety front, the GTI is equipped with seven airbags, ADAS features, and essentials like a rear-view camera and Park Distance Control. Performance meets control with the XDS electronic front differential lock, ensuring confident grip during spirited drives, offering a perfect balance of comfort, performance, and safety net.

Powertrain: The Talking Point

Powering the Volkswagen Golf GTI is a punchy 2.0-litre TSI engine that delivers an exhilarating 265 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. This performance hatchback is built to thrill, rocketing from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. Whether it's quick acceleration or confident overtaking, the GTI has the muscle to back its legendary badge.

As for its pricing, it will be a CBU model and will be limited in numbers for India and will be priced close to Rs. 45 lakhs- Rs 50 lakhs ex-showroom.

Verdict

The Golf GTI is a part of the bigger plans by Volkswagen where along with its regular models, which are not plenty in number as of now, it brings in the performance niche products via imports and does not shy away from hefty pricing. It plays to the smaller pool of enthusiast buyers who are willing to splurge on a hatch, if it brings the grunt and thrills. But it remains to be seen as to how the brand prices it when compared to the recently launched Tiguan R-Line.
