With its official debut in India, the Renault Duster 2026 marks a significant return for the iconic SUV nameplate. Alongside modern design and features, Renault has plans to launch the Strong Hybrid E-Tech 160 powertrain for the first time in India, close to Diwali. A move that puts it in direct competition with both traditional petrol SUVs and newer hybrid rivals. Here's how the Duster hybrid compares with some of the main competitors in the segment. Powertrains

The all-new Duster is to get a strong hybrid petrol unit in India, this Diwali. However, this strong hybrid setup combines a 1.8-litre petrol unit paired with two electric motors backed by a 1.4kWh battery pack. These together belt out 160hp and 172 Nm of torque. On the other hand, only the Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara, and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder come with a hybrid setup. Notably, these share the same 1.5-litre 3-cylinder TNGA Atkinson Cycle petrol engine (M15D) paired with a self-charging electric motor. However, when paired with an eCVT unit, this setup combined belts out 92.2 PS and 122 nm of torque. If we compare these figures with the Duster, these figures seem to be very low.

Features

In terms of features, the Renault Duster comes loaded with a plethora of features, including a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment along with wireless connectivity, 10,25-inch digital cluster, a Panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, 6-way powered adjustable seats, ventilated seats, level 2 ADAS and much more.

On the other hand, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder offers same set of features under different aliases. While, the Victoris happens to be their younger sibling with a better set of features. Some of them include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment along with a 10.25-inch digital cluster. Additionally, it comes loaded with an 8-way power adjustable driver seat, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof and an 8-speaker Infinity sound system. Apart from this, the Grand Vitara and Hyryder come equipped with 9-inch infotainment, Panoramic sunroof, Wireless charging pad and much more. However, these two twins miss out on many modern-day features like level 2 ADAS, head-up display and 360-degree camera.

Verdict

The Renault Duster 2026 Hybrid makes a strong case for itself by bringing a powerful strong-hybrid setup and a comprehensive feature list to the compact SUV segment. With higher output figures than existing hybrid rivals and modern tech like Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera, the Duster clearly raises the bar. If Renault prices it competitively, the Duster Hybrid could emerge as one of the most compelling options for buyers seeking performance, efficiency and features in one package.
