2020 Mahindra Thar AX Base Model Spied For The First Time - All Details

The Indian Utility Vehicle Giant - Mahindra unveiled the new-generation Thar in India on 15th August 2020. The new-gen Thar has created a lot of buzzes around as we have seen multiple test mules of the same prior to its official unveil. Now, after its official debut on the Independence day, it has made everyone go wow as the new Thar is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor. So far, we have seen the top-spec model of the new Thar but now the pictures of the AX base model of the new 2020 Mahindra Thar have surfaced online. So, let's have a closer look at it.

The new Mahindra Thar will be available in two variants - AX and LX and the buyers can also choose an optional pack with the AX variant for some more goodies. The AX variant of the new Thar gets a fixed soft top but the buyers can also opt for the hard top or removable soft top with the optional pack. As you can see in the images above, this base model of the new Thar doesn't get any fancy elements but it does get all the essentials. The 4x4 SUV runs on 16-inch steel wheels and gets tubular steel side steps. These spied images are of the Black colour Thar AX but it will be available in red shade too. Also, it will get jump seats unlike the front facing seats of the Thar LX.

With the optional pack on the AX, one can get the following add-ons:

• Convertible Top or Hard Top
• Front-facing Rear Seats with Roll Cage
• ISOFIX Child Seat Mounts on Rear Seats
• Remote Keyless Entry (only with Hard Top)
• Height Adjustable Driver Seat

The base model AX of the 2020 Mahindra Thar will be available with both petrol and diesel engine options. However, it will be paired with a manual gearbox only and the AT will be reserved for the top-spec model. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion T-GDI petrol engine that will churn out 152 PS of power at 5000 RPM and 320 Nm peak torque between 1500-3000 RPM. It will also get a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that will churn out 132 PS of power at 3750 RPM and 300 Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800 RPM. Both the engines will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox in this trim and will get 4X4 system as standard.

We expect the base model of the new Mahindra Thar to be priced around Rs. 12 lakhs while the top-spec trim might fetch up to Rs. 15 lakhs. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi.
