  • The updated Honda City is available in 4 variants
  • Hyundai is set to launch the new-gen Verna on the 21st of March
  • New Verna will have more advanced ADAS tech than Honda City

The 2023 Honda City facelift is here. It has been launched in India in 4 variants. It gets a single petrol engine option with a manual or CVT automatic transmission choice. Priced between Rs 11.49 lakh to Rs 15.97 lakh (ex-showroom), the most significant addition to the facelifted Honda City is the ADAS tech. On the other hand, the 2023 next-gen Hyundai Verna is also set to launch on the 21st of March, just a few days from now. That's where the question arises, should you go with the 2023 Honda City and book it or should you wait for the arrival of the 2023 Hyundai Verna? Well, here's what we think.

2023 Hyundai Verna or 2023 Honda City: Dimension Differences

As the 2023 Hyundai Verna's dimension stats are out we can confirm that the next-gen sedan has a 70 mm longer wheelbase at 2670 mm compared to the 2023 Honda City. This means more legroom and more cabin space in the 2023 Hyundai Verna. Also, the new Verna is 17 mm wider than the Honda City at 1765 mm. This means more shoulder room in the cabin and more spacious rear seating for 3 people. The 528 litre boot space on the new-gen Verna is also higher than the 506 litre boot space on the 2023 Honda City.

On the other hand, when it comes to the overall length, the SV, V & VX variants of the 2023 Honda City are 39 mm longer than the new-gen Verna at 4574 mm and the ZX variant of the 2023 City is 48 mm longer than the new-gen Verna at 4583 mm. Also, the 2023 Honda City is 14 mm taller than the new-gen Verna at 1489 mm. This means more headroom in the cabin for taller passengers.

2023 Hyundai Verna or 2023 Honda City: Powertrain Differences

The 2023 Honda City continues with the 1.5-litre i-VTEC 4-cylinder petrol engine producing 121 PS of power and 145 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. Whereas, the new-gen Verna gets two engine options i.e. a 1.5 litre Turbo GDi Petrol engine mated to a 6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) or 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (7DCT), and a 1.5 l MPi Petrol engine mated to a 6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) or a CVT/IMT automatic. Although the 2023 Honda City is a tech and feature-loaded sedan with almost all the comfort and convenience features required, there are still some extra features that the new-gen Verna is expected to offer over the 2023 City. These include front parking sensors, BOSE audio system, a unique verticle phone holder with wireless charging, ventilated front seats, radar-based level 2 ADAS, etc. Apart from these unique features, the new-gen Verna is expected to offer almost every other feature that the 2023 Honda City gets.

2023 Hyundai Verna or 2023 Honda City: ADAS Differences

Though both vehicles offer ADAS, there are some major differences in the ADAS tech of both sedans. The Honda City gets a camera-based ADAS whereas the Verna gets a radar + camera-based ADAS; the latter is a more accurate, reliable, and consistent system. Also, the new-gen Verna will offer some level 2 ADAS features which the 2023 Honda City does not offer. These include rear cross-traffic alert, rear blindspot warning, etc.

Verdict: The upcoming new-gen Hyundai Verna is surely a promising product and if you can, then you should definitely wait for the launch of the new Hyundai Verna. The Honda City is also a superb option, but Verna being its true rival, needs to be brought into the picture for comparison.
