Mahindra is currently developing a long-wheelbase variant of its Thar SUV. The 2023 Mahindra Thar 5-Door SUV will debut early next year. Just ahead of its launch, a test mule has been spied on in India. See below the clearest images of the upcoming SUV from Mahindra.

Mahindra Thar 5-Door SUV Details
As visible in the spy pics, the 5-door variant is going to be a lookalike of the current model. However, the addition of two rear doors can not be ignored. The extended wheelbase has enhanced the visual appeal of Thar. Additionally, the appeal of the length of it will attract even more buyers. Meanwhile, the 5-Door variant seems to be similar in the design elements as well. The LED taillight, bumper, & quarter glass design looks similar too. However, the alloy wheel design might be a bit different. It shall be done for distinguishing it from the standard Thar. Meanwhile, the spare tyre is present at the rear door providing it with a proper SUV look.
The interiors of the 5-door Thar also ought to remain the same. However, the change shall be the addition of two captain seats in the middle. These seats will get their separate armrests as well as power window buttons. Meanwhile, the dashboard, steering wheel, & other features are likely to remain unchanged. The current Thar is very much loved by the urban office commuting owners. However, the lack of space inside makes it a dicey choice for some. Hence, the addition of a 5-door variant will help attract more buyers.
Mechanically, it will remain the same. The use of 2.2-lt, turbo-petrol & turbo-diesel engine options will remain the same. Additionally, the gearbox options will also remain the same. However, Mahindra will re-tune the engine power & torque according to the added weight. Additionally, the suspension shall also be redesigned to make it more comfortable.
Verdict
The upcoming Thar 5-door SUV is likely to debut at the 2023 Indian Auto Expo. It will directly rival the upcoming Force Gurkha 5-Door & Maruti Jimny 5-Door. Its expected launch price shall remain around Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
