5 Reasons Why The Mahindra Bolero SUV Continues To Steer Towards Success

The market for SUVs has great demand in India. The affordability is a criterion that most of the middle-class families consider before buying a car and since Mahindra Bolero is an SUV that is considerably cheap and could cater to the needs of a middle-class family, it remains on top of the list in terms of best selling SUV's even today.

As a Mahindra Bolero owner for years, in my opinion, these are the reasons why it remains a top priority among middle-class families when considering an SUV today.

Reason no.1:

Mahindra Bolero is a tough SUV that can take the beating from the rough roads in India and still has a low price on maintenance. The 2.5 litre m2CRDI turbo engine used to churn out 63bhp and a torque of 195Nm at 1400 Rpm which is not bad for an SUV priced at Rs.7,48,826 for the standard variant considering other car manufacturers selling SUVs at a price range of 10 to 15 lakhs for their base models. For BS6, you only get the 1.5 diesel now - this smaller capacity motor is extremely frugal and yet has ample low end punch to potter around in traffic.

Reason no.2:

It is a seven-seater and one could manage to squeeze in two more average-sized people. The boot size offers as much as 690 litres of space - now this is seriously good amount of luggage area. It must be mentioned that other SUVs which are a class apart such as the Mahindra Scorpio and the XUV500 has a boot space of 460 litres and 92 litres respectively without the seats being folded and thus the Bolero is a great deal of value.

Reason no.3:

The safety features might not be the best part of the car but it has few important features which cannot be avoided such as engine immobilizer, child safety locks, door ajar warning and central locking systems. Even though there is less safety equipment on board, the car can take heavy impacts because of the strong build quality such as the bumpers, heavy pillars that acts as impact bars. The car stays planted on to the road due to its heavy weight. Note that the heavy body does not take away the performance of the car. It can reach up to 120 km/hour like a breeze. The tyres are meant for both off-road and on-road. Also, the 15-inch wheels with high profile tyres provide enough ground clearance. What more could one ask for? Right?

Reason no.4:

The car comes with comfort features that are necessary for the Indian conditions. It has air-conditioning with a heater. There is a temperature knob that helps set the temperature. Digital instrumental cluster is also an important feature which no other cars in this segment provide. There are no analogs to show the engine temperature or the fuel level instead they are all digital. There is an information cluster that shows tyre pressure, gear shifts indicators, distance to empty and Mahindra proudly presents the Start-stop option. These features attract middle-class families which is why the car is the best selling SUV of all time.

Wait, there is more to why Bolero is the best selling SUV!

Reason no.5:

The Bolero can also haul heavy loads due to the TOYO suspension setup that consists of the leaf springs. I own a Bolero and the car performs well even in stressful conditions. I have loaded the car with Barrels of tar and travelled 30 km and the car showed no signs of wear and tear so one could imagine how the car is built. It is indeed a military Tank because of the tough built body and chassis.

Thus the car has evolved right from when it was first produced in the year 2000 and still has the same pedigree which could be simply described as its a Jeep thing.
