7 New/Used Sedan cars in India with High Ground Clearance

These affordable sedan cars have the highest ground clearance, which makes them extremely practical and feasible for Indian roads.

Given how smooth and reliable Indian roads are (pun intended), it becomes imperative for cars to have high ground clearance. The consistent poor quality of our roads can act as a reason to explain the phenomenal rise in SUV sales, but cars of other body styles have evolved as well. If you are looking for someone looking for a practical car, here is a list of the top 7 sedan cars in India with high ground clearance.

Sedans have always been a very important segment of our country. Not only are they the preferred choice of so many families, but the three-box styling makes it equally practical. However, since these cars are naturally low-slung, travelling with them becomes restricted due to our varied topography. Below here is the list of sedan cars, both new and used, that doesnt have this issue, for their raised ground clearance.

Ford Aspire

(Ground Clearance - 176 mm)

Ford might have left Indian shores, but its model will still ply on Indian roads. The compact-sedan model, the Aspire was based on the second-generation Ford Figo hatchback, and both came with high ground clearance.  Prices for the Aspire sedan in the used market ranges from Rs. 3.00 lakh to Rs. 5.00 lakh. Both diesel and petrol engines are available. The Titanium diesel power unit produces 98.96 bhp and 215 Nm of torque and the Titanium Petrol engine produces 94.93 bhp and 119 Nm of torque. Both comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

Tata Tigor

(Ground Clearance - 175 mm)

The Tata Tigor replaced the Tata Zest, which previously had the highest ground clearance for a Tata sedan. The Tigor competes in the mid-size segment which is populated by the likes of the Ford Aspire, Maruti Dzire, and the Hyundai Aura. Prices for the Tata Tigore starts from Rs. 5.75 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs. 7.49 lakh.

Honda Civic

(Ground Clearance -  171 mm)

The last-generation Honda Civic also had the highest ground clearance in its history at 171 mm. It was higher than its previous iterations. It came equipped with a 1.8-litre petrol engine mated to CVT gearbox as standard. The Honda Civic is now not available in showrooms, however, you can buy one from the second-hand market and a used Civic will cost you around Rs. 10.15 lakh to Rs. 12.45 lakh.

Maruti Ciaz

(Ground Clearance -  170 mm)

The Maruti Ciaz has the highest ground clearance in its segment at 170 mm. Which, to be honest, does kill the vibe of sedan cars which are usually low slung. But the design of the Ciaz is more executive than being funky or sporty. Maruti offers the Ciaz in eight variants with only one petrol engine option. Prices range from Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 11.5 lakh.

The Honda City competes against the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz and Skoda Rapid.

Both can be availed with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT unit. Prices for the Honda Amaze starts from Rs 8.66 lakh with the base E Diesel model, and the base E Petrol model starts from Rs. 6.32 lakh.

Hyundai Verna

(Ground Clearance - 165 mm)

The Hyundai Verna is another sedan that has a good ground clearance of 165 mm. It might not be seated as high as one of its core competitors, the Maruti Ciaz, but the Hyundai is quite practical on Indian roads. Hyundai offers the Verna in 12 variants with both petrol and diesel engine combination. Prices for the Verna starts from Rs. 9.19 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs. 15.2 lakh
