ADAS Tech Differences In 2023 Honda City & New-Gen Hyundai Verna

Honda recently launched the 2023 City facelift with ADAS tech. After the Honda City eHEV Hyrbid, the updated Honda city is the second Honda car in India to get the ADAS features. On the other hand, Hyundai is also set to launch the 2023 new-gen Verna in India with ADAS. This would be Hyundai's third car in India to come with ADAS features, the Tucson and Ioniq 5 being the first & second respectively. Though both Hyundai Verna and Honda City offer ADAS, there are some major differences in the ADAS tech of both sedans. Here we will discuss all the details and differences between the ADAS tech of the new-gen Hyundai Verna and the 2023 Honda City.

New-Gen Hyundai Verna ADAS VS 2023 Honda City ADAS: Hardware Differences

The ADAS tech in 2023 Honda City is a camera-based system that works using a forward-looking and IRVM-mounted camera. There's no radar sensor in the City. Whereas the new-gen Hyundai Verna gets a radar + camera-based ADAS tech which is considered more accurate, reliable, and consistent than the camera-based ADAS systems. Also, unlike camera-based systems, the radar-based ADAS works normally in severe conditions like dense fog/smog, dust storms, complete darkness, etc. When it comes to accurate obstacle detection, here too the radar-based ADAS systems are better than the camera-based systems. Also, radar-based systems can better handle situations where there are multiple obstacles/objects in front of the vehicle.

Apart from all this, the interesting point about the new-gen Hyundai Verna is that it not only gets a forward-mounted radar, but it also has two more radars mounted inside the left and right side of the rear bumper. These two extra rear-mounted radars help in several level-2 ADAS features like rear cross-traffic alert, rear blind spot warning, rear collision warning, and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance by auto braking.

Verdict: Although the ADAS tech of the new-gen Hyundai Verna is more advanced than the 2023 Honda City, it is also more complex, costly, and comes with higher maintenance costs. Moreover, the ADAS tech on the 2023 Honda City also works well in most normal conditions and is definitely much better than having no ADAS.
